[Moderator Announcement, Rule Updates, General Comments]

First off, I and the rest of the mod staff would like to thank everyone in this game for the outpouring of affection, concern, and thoughtful consideration in the aftermath of this round's anonymous meme. Even when we have moments of darkness, I'm always so impressed by just how caring this community is on the whole, and I'm incredibly grateful to ( Read more... )

UH just as an amendment to my previous comment: I really don't see what the big deal is. I've been RPing since I was 15, and nearly every single game I've been in until I started doing LJ games a year ago, has asked for players' ages in the application process. I have never seen an underaged player ostracised or discriminated against for being under 18, nor have I EXPERIENCED any of that as a teenager playing in games with adults. In my old games, I've had... way too many RPers 16 and under express interest in RPing romance with my characters, and because, for the most part, people were open with their ages, it made it easier for me to figure out HOW I should go about RPing the relationship. I didn't refuse CR with them; I just left out certain details. I imagine people here would behave similarly.

Besides which, the language of the mod announcement says that it's requested, not required, for minors to state their minor status ( ... )

The ages in application section would also be voluntary.

Kinda mixed feelings here.

I love you mods and help staff for acting on this swiftly and with level heads. But, I really do agree with Kid on this issue. Many of the younglings will lie about their age and it was not an issue until the anon meme. Honestly, if people feel that strongly about something, they should have the guys to come out and tell a mod, or the player in question, rather than taking it out on the whole community as is happening now.

Like I say, I respect whatever you guys choose and I'm glad you are doing something to fix whatever "problem" this is considered. But, I don't think there's any good way to fix this.

Understandably.

We do realize that many players will not report, or lie. We know it's not a perfect system.

But we are not aiming to penalize, ostracize, or otherwise exclude players under the age of eighteen from the community. We're not even making the reporting of ages an actual requirement for community membership.

It is, more than anything else, a courtesy so that players who are uncomfortable with certain subject matters in regards to playing them directly against minors will at least have some method of checking their boundaries without having to individually confer with every player they come into contact with.

I know it seems like it might be an overreaction, but we want this community to be as comfortable a place to play as possible.

I understand that it won't be a requirement, but it seems to me that if someone doesn't give their age on an application, or in their intro post, the implication will then be that they're underage. Whether it's intentional or not, they're still being segregated in some way.

It's true that the concern here is actually to protect those of us that are older, but if someone chooses to log/whatever adult content, they should know who they're logging with. To be honest, Cape and Cowl isn't a sex game. It isn't even that dark when compared to other LJ games I've seen. I'm just not entirely understanding where the hysteria is coming from here.

But, as I've said, I really do love this game and I do respect that you guys are trying to do right here. Thanks for that. We really couldn't ask for better mods.

My only comment is that you say, "capeandcowl and capeandcowl" where I think you mean, "capeandcowl and capeandcowllogs".

Other than that, this all looks fine to me.

A lot of the underage players we have are pretty open about the fact that they're under 18, and I certainly haven't seen any discrimination against them.

Seconding Yami and Kid here but I understand this is for the majority of the community and you're doing your best to make everyone comfortable. For that, I think you for putting your immediate time and efforts into solving this issue!

Thank you for your understanding! I don't know if there's any solution to a problem like this that would suit everyone, especially since the stemming issue is one that's divisive by its nature.
