First off, I and the rest of the mod staff would like to thank everyone in this game for the outpouring of affection, concern, and thoughtful consideration in the aftermath of this round's anonymous meme. Even when we have moments of darkness, I'm always so impressed by just how caring this community is on the whole, and I'm incredibly grateful to ( Read more... )

Kinda mixed feelings here.

I love you mods and help staff for acting on this swiftly and with level heads. But, I really do agree with Kid on this issue. Many of the younglings will lie about their age and it was not an issue until the anon meme. Honestly, if people feel that strongly about something, they should have the guys to come out and tell a mod, or the player in question, rather than taking it out on the whole community as is happening now.

Like I say, I respect whatever you guys choose and I'm glad you are doing something to fix whatever "problem" this is considered. But, I don't think there's any good way to fix this.

Understandably.

We do realize that many players will not report, or lie. We know it's not a perfect system.

But we are not aiming to penalize, ostracize, or otherwise exclude players under the age of eighteen from the community. We're not even making the reporting of ages an actual requirement for community membership.

It is, more than anything else, a courtesy so that players who are uncomfortable with certain subject matters in regards to playing them directly against minors will at least have some method of checking their boundaries without having to individually confer with every player they come into contact with.

I know it seems like it might be an overreaction, but we want this community to be as comfortable a place to play as possible.

I understand that it won't be a requirement, but it seems to me that if someone doesn't give their age on an application, or in their intro post, the implication will then be that they're underage. Whether it's intentional or not, they're still being segregated in some way.

It's true that the concern here is actually to protect those of us that are older, but if someone chooses to log/whatever adult content, they should know who they're logging with. To be honest, Cape and Cowl isn't a sex game. It isn't even that dark when compared to other LJ games I've seen. I'm just not entirely understanding where the hysteria is coming from here.

But, as I've said, I really do love this game and I do respect that you guys are trying to do right here. Thanks for that. We really couldn't ask for better mods.

There was a giant demonic rape orgy in Central Park recently, that resulted in an impregnated clown, and it was part of a major game-wide plot. It may not be a sex game, but I think there's dark and "adult" enough ground being covered to warrant some concern.

I completely get where you're coming from, but I respectfully disagree with the perception that it was not an issue until that meme. I just think it was an issue nobody was talking about, waiting for the wrong catalyst to come along. If younglings are going to lie to the whole comm, they're also going to lie to someone they have potentially dark or naughty CR with who is trying to find out exactly who they're logging with, too.

I have faith in the large and friendly playerbase, bitchy anons excepted, that we won't ostracize players for being young, especially seeing that there's this much concern about the potential of it happening at all in both of these posts discussing the issue.

I'm gonna be completely honest here when I say that while I read about impregnated clowns and demon rape orgies on the anon meme, I totally assumed that was in jest/a joke/random bullshit.

The fact that any of that actually happens, I find really awkward.

My opinions on 'outing' minors stays the same, mind you. I just think that perhaps our time would be better spent discussing what is actually appropriate to play out at CnC. I'm all for artistic freedom and such, and yeah, if I don't like it, I certainly don't have to view the log. But I don't know. Regardless of the age of the players, I still don't think that needs to be part of the comm.

I'm really not trying to offend any of the players involved in that plot. But from the sounds of it (and keep in mind, guys, I haven't actually read anything about it yet), that doesn't seem like something that fits my general impression of CnC ( ... )

It was part of a big plot you may have missed that involved the seven deadly sin-demons possessing seven different people and causing all sorts of massive problems. The "Lust" one possessed Stark, and thus there was a giant orgy in Central Park, which sorta seemed funny at first, and then became pretty disturbing when one thought about the fall-out once the demonic possession wore off and a bunch of people realized they'd been essentially mind-controlled into all that, which goes to consensual issues ( ... )

Here's a question!

If your goal is to protect people who are uncomfortable with certain subject, why the hell are you assuming that only minors would be disturbed by them? Some minors, I assure you, are fine with reading about sex, violence, and triggering subjects. Some people of legal age, however, are not. Are you seriously of the opinion that people of legal age can read a warning on a log, go "Oh, I don't like that shit" and read something else instead, while minors, for some reason, can't? Or is this really all about the kind of situation where one player does a sex log with another and later, to their horror, discovers that person was underage? Does that require a rule? What's so hard about asking someone for their age over AIM or something before going to have sex with them?

I completely don't get this rule.
