Jomy was sitting on a bench, taking in the scenery. The park was incredibly wide, filled with so much variety--namely in people's minds. He took a few spare minutes to pick up wandering thoughts, Rain's head pressing against the palm of his hand. Jomy let it climb up to his shoulder. He found that people often minded at his little companion, but rarely made an effort to point it out or ask. There had been more than a few 'That's so cute!' and 'That's weird' thoughts alike, though.

He couldn't help but notice the girl across the path with a companion of her own. Distractedly, Jomy let his gaze linger on them with curious interest.

Jomy did notice the peculiar synchronization, and the quick exchange of thoughts between them.

A hand slowly raised to greet them from afar, unsure of what their reaction to it would be.

Midmorning Wednesday? loveyourenemy May 14 2010, 23:07:13 UTC
The unexpected day off left Matsuka with time on his hands that, truthfully, he really had no idea what to do with. He'd gone out feeling as though he ought to be doing something, only to end up wandering aimlessly around the Upper West Side, and some hours later sat on the steps at the south entrance of the Museum of Natural History with his thoughts and his worries circling purposelessly in his head, feeling a little bit lost in the sea of emotions that was the massed population of the City.

He didn't even notice Jomy at first - but the psychic resonance of a Mu so powerful was hard to miss for very long, and soon Matsuka was jolted back to the here and now, with an involuntary flash of alarm.

As much as he was paying attention to his surroundings, it was impossible to miss the sudden activity from the Mu a few steps ahead. Jomy's focus was immediately redirected once he recognized the face--but the human he had previously seen him with didn't appear to be anywhere nearby. Still...

"You--"

"Ah--" Matsuka ducked his head, that momentary alarm dissolving into a more nebulous anxiety and a good deal of shame. "Keith's not around, don't worry. Um, but I'll go, if you'd rather..." He started to get up without even finishing the sentence. Blue's reassurances notwithstanding, surely Jomy had every reason not to want Matsuka around him...

Jomy was ready to let Jonah leave, but a little shift in his posture preluded a change of mind - despite Rain's clear discomfort. He was a Mu, one under the control of a violent and resentful human. If anything, it only increased Jomy's concern and sense of duty toward his leadership. Whatever was left to be had, at least...

"--no." He raised one hand reassuringly, then approached, not without making sure any information about his or Blue's whereabouts were secured and unobtainable. "It's alright."

There was a pause. "Are you alright?"

last friday-ish, some clothes store idk deeplyunnormal May 14 2010, 23:24:29 UTC
The problem with letting Jack have his freedom was that he needed honest to god clothes. Orange sweatpants and cast-off socks just weren't going to cut it anymore, so Jill took it upon herself to buy him a few more clothes than the hoodie, two pairs of jeans and four shirts she had bought him previously. Holding up a shirt she pinged Jack to ask his opinion.

What do you think, Jack?
No one cares but you, Jill.
We're supposed to be talking, Jack. Not arguing. Do you want it?
I don't like the green. Can we get the black?

Jill sighed and put the shirt back on the back and pulled out a blue version of the same shirt.

Does everything have to be black? Look, this blue is nice.
Actually, yeah. I like the blue. Let's get that.
Great!

Jill smiled, mostly to herself, and put the blue shirt in their basket. Maybe things with Jack weren't going so bad.

Jomy picked up a shirt. He gave it a look or two before lowering his eyes to his own and trying to compare. Fashion here was... not that radically different, but the similarities weren't abundant in most cases, either.

As he set the article down, Jomy couldn't help but notice a high activity of thoughts being thrown back and forth. Telepathy, no doubt. Needless to say it caught his attention, so eyes searched for the source(s). He was surprised to find only one--a girl picking out shirts. He was pretty sure both voices were present nearby, but he only saw one. That was peculiar...

Jill, hurry up and pay. There's a creeper checking you out.

Jill looked around before spotting the person Jack was indicating. He looked perfectly normal, really. Anyway she doubted that he was going to do anything to her.

Oh hush, Jack. He's probably just weirded out that I'm picking out guy clothes.

Ignoring Jack's rather loud protests about how she was going to get raped and left in a ditch, Jill picked up their basket and walked over to the guy. It was always better to be nice.

"Hello," Jill said with a smile, "do you need help?"

"Oh--" Jomy raised his hand apologetically, the blue critter peering at her with curiosity from his shoulders. "No... Thank you."

There were perhaps a few seconds of awkward silence--his eyes shifted down to the clothes Jill was holding.

Ness strolled down the sidewalk, taking a leisurely pace that allowed him to stop and window-shop without much fuss.

He was simply exploring, though his slow pace made him stick out a little in the busy sidewalk traffic.

On a shop up ahead, Jomy was walking out and excusing himself with disarming gestures, a blue critter hanging onto his shoulder. If a telepath were paying attention, they could have heard a faint 'I'm sorry' spoken in a gentle and childish tone.

The young man was excusing himself as well--it was the second time a shopkeeper had asked him to leave because pets weren't allowed in the establishment. Understandable, but still...

Jomy's finger moved up to stroke Rain's head, murmuring a 'It's okay' with his thoughts.

It was time to head back to the house, he figured.

While he was no longer of overt telepathic communication himself (thanks for nothing, Porter), Ness was still quite able to pick up telepathic signals. That was what attracted his attention to Jomy and Rain, and he picked up his pace a little to catch up with them, not least of all because he was sure he recognized that voice from earlier.

"Excuse me!" he said as he finally came near enough to tug lightly on Jomy's shirt. He was smiling, too, the definition of friendliness.

Jomy's head quickly turned. There was a slight double-take when he noticed that the stranger calling for his attention was slightly shorter than expected--a child.

The recognition was immediate - he was certain that he had felt this air of friendliness before. On the very first day he arrived...

Offering Ness a smile was practically inevitable. There was no question that the child had recognized him as well. Rain's ears flicked with curiosity, peering. "Ah - hello."

Terra wasn't used to cities even a tenth as large as the City, its dense population, or its advanced technology. Even trying to get out of the City just led to shorelines, or other cities and neighborhoods. From what she'd been able to find out from a few cursory searches of map brochures in so-called convenience stores, the whole world seemed far too large to comprehend ( ... )

Jomy was quietly observing the girl; not necessarily reading her mind as much as he was able to pick up lost thoughts. She, too, didn't belong. Something compelled him to approach her.

Calmly standing next to Terra, Jomy looked down at the coins within the fountain.

"I've been told..." He began, eyes kept on the pennies. "That each of these coins represent someone's wish."

She noticed the shadow before the man first, a dark patch across the water; her fingers twitched against the rim of the fountain, nervous. Was she doing something wrong? Did he know her? Did he know what she was? A dozen anxious questions flitted across her mind in a moment before he spoke.

The words he spoke were not at all what she expected. Glancing down at the coins in the water, Terra turned her gaze up toward the man, blue eyes wide open and curious.

"... Wishes?"

He offered her a calm nod, despite the brief stroke of anxiety he'd felt in her conscience.

"Mm." Truth be told, he wasn't entirely accustomed to approaching people in this world. You never knew quite what you would get... but the experience had proven to be a surprising one so far. "I believe... you hold a coin, then ask for a wish to come true before tossing it into the fountain."
