THE LIIIIIBRARYYYYyyy howsabout shiny afternoonish may 12 itsprotocol May 15 2010, 14:00:11 UTC
Salaak found everything about this planet overly congested. The cities were a testimony to that, certainly, but his concerns were more geared towards the task of information-gathering. The Earth's information networking systems were clogged with so much uselessness and banality that a simple keyword search became an hour's worth of run-around headaches.

Lantern Gardner had teasingly suggested that the Clarissi go live at a library instead. Intended insults aside, the notion was not taken as lightly as it was given. Yes, then perhaps one could somehow get work done without the nightly noise of drunken Earthmen. It was a prospect worth considering as far as Salaak was concerned.

Such things required, as always, research. Though he was more than aware the idea of living in a public library was absurd, utilizing it was another thing entirely. As loathe as he was to launch himself into public, the "Google" all but forced his hand. Hands ( ... )

It was inevitable - once you had seen the streets and met the people, it was time to take a deeper look at things. The library hadn't been terribly inviting, but he eventually brought himself to take a look. Such a vast source of information would have been nearly impossible for him to find in his origin. It reminded him of Karina, how excited she was to learn and take on challenges no one else was brave enough to.

He'd wandered around the various sections of the library aimlessly, even run into at least one awkward situation where a couple thought that the far end of an aisle was the ideal spot for a semi-public display of affection.

Cute squirrel, by the way. The girl said, hanging onto her boyfriend as they walked away.

An hour had passed since he first walked into the establishment. He picked out several books, but one caught his attention. Lost Horizon, it was called. It was out of place among the other titles with focus on fact and real world information, so he held onto it while searching for a librarian he could give it ( ... )

There was something very profound about a book. Information instantly displayed, the only delay being the speed with which one turned the pages. No digital queue, no broken links, and certainly none of that peculiar, deep-voiced man singing about giving things up...Yes, Salaak liked these books. Rather, the concept of them; Is there nothing in this building that is up to date?! The lack of instant updates--the great disability of such a useful tool.

Once he had reached up and pushed the outdated volume back up to where he had found it, Salaak's peripherals were filled by something other than open space and shelving. He turned his head, his all-too honest expression reading as a mix of inquiry and irritation.

Silence. It was a library, after all.

Eventually, though, seeing as the yellow-haired man before him lacked the drive to engage with words, Salaak sighed, finding the task unfortunately up to him. "Yes?" he offered, not bothering to glaze over his annoyance.

Jomy blinked. "Ah--" There was a slight movement and apologetic smile. "--I'm sorry."

A moment passed. This wasn't going too well in his favor. Looking down at his book, a topic quickly came back to mind. "I don't... know where this book belongs." He showed it to Salaak, just enough to make the title visible. "I found it next to History books..."

howabout may 7 late mornin'. VACANT SPACE WHERE A BUILDING USED TO BE. inthirds May 15 2010, 14:52:08 UTC
Weeks ago, Zelgadis had redecorated the makeshift sparring grounds with dozens of stone spires--Dug Haut. They jutted out of the ground like teeth, their size the largest in a clump where the spell had first discharged, scattering in distance and shrinking in size the further away from the source they had sprung up. He noted they had hardly been dented, assuming his skill or later sparring partners' lack of was reason. Either way, they were target practice, and Zelgadis was going to work unmaking them.

His sword was held in his right hand, his left curled and drawn away from his body in preparation. The blade was already humming, alive with a red energy that would make quick work of stone--or, that's how it used to be when he had the one-ton forward swing of a stone golem. Now, however, so much closer to being human, he was finding that he had to work a bit harder for the same effect ( ... )

The explosion in the distance wasn't as clear as the thoughts from the people closer to it. Surprise and alarm were among those who felt it was reason to call for the authorities, while the rest simply brushed it off as something that one or more of the imPorts could easily care of - assuming there was something to care for in the first place.

Jomy decided to approach, see if there was anything he could do to help. If at first he decided to go by foot, he simply let go of his discretion and teleported directly to the spot.

Unfortunately, he had been a little too accurate. The first thing he saw was the reflexion of the sun against a blade ready to swing in his direction--he barely had time to react before a hand sent out to stop the stranger with his mind--"Stop--!"

Zelgadis had no problem hitting the same mark repeatedly, and swing three was ready to arc and shave the stone in front of him when there was light--and then there was...some guy. Zelgadis was already in mid-swing by the time he realized it--Shit!--and intended to bend an arm to bend the swing when--

"Ah-?!"

He wasn't moving. At all. For reasons he couldn't quite figure out, because his line of sight was being blocked by his twisting forearms and the blade that was gradually losing its red tint. So much for the Astral Vine, but what-?!

Jomy was inching back, hands still held up in front of him. It took a beat for him to fully open his eyes and blink, taking a quick look around the premises before returning his attention to Zelgadis, holding him in that position.

"What are you doing?" A change in his expression. "Did you cause that explosion?"

The announcement of a war, however, lingered heavily in Jomy's mind. He didn't quite understand what either side was meant to represent--it seemed that conflicts in this dimension were just as needless and ridiculous as anywhere else. And just as much of a cause for deep concern...

You could blame his distraction on that fact. The Mu was mostly absent minded as he walked down the street, paying some care to the back of Rain's ears.

Jomy, too, was slightly surprised--a hand raised half-apologetically, half-disarmingly. "Ah--no, it's alright."
