Sarah was finishing the orders on a table in the corner when the familiar looking man came back into the diner. Well, well, well, would wonders never cease. She saw the other waitress on duty head to his table, but Sarah waved at her and shook her head.

Sarah'd take that table.

Swinging by the coffee station for the pot, she headed to the table and poured him a glass.

"Fancy meeting you here. Come to pay me back for last time?"

Sarah held his gaze for a full minute, before looking away. "I don't know anything, but if I do... I'll pass it along."

There might not be Skynet to fight, but she couldn't stay completely unconcerned.

"But I keep a low profile, and I don't like trouble." She bit the last words off, confident that he would understand that any trouble he gave her would come back to him.

Jack nodded. Low profiles, he could understand. "You won't get any," he said. "And if you ever do, and you need help, you can count on me. I give you my word."

Sarah held his gaze for a moment before looking away and sliding out of the booth.

"Food's up, I'll be back in a sec."

"Sure." As he watched her go, Jack wondered exactly what he might have gotten himself into by giving this woman his word that he would help her.

Because he had meant it.

She didn't want protecting and she sure as hell didn't need it. Still, Bauer's attitude and... dedication had made an impact. He stuck her as someone who did what he thought was right and damned the consequences... something she could more than identify with.

Still, best not to get too close to anyone.

She came back quickly with his lunch and set it down, along with a folded slip of paper.

"My number, if you need it. Need anything else?"

He looked at the number, memorized it, folded it, and pocketed it. "More coffee, please." Then he started eating his sandwich.
