One of the best things about this city, Sari had decided, was that she didn't even have to listen to the tutorbot anymore and Sentinel had failed on all grounds of parenting. Which meant there was no such thing as curfew. Which likely explained why she was out so late, testing her third jet-pack prototype ( ... )

Someone asked if she was okay. Jill let her eyes open and focus again before she looked up. Huh, the person asking kind of looked like a robot or something. Probably dreaming then.

"Maybe," Jill murmured, "Mostly I'm tired."

It occurs to her than although she wants to fall asleep right there, she can't. That would be bad because she's outside wearing clothes that are too big for her and it's not exactly an ideal condition to be sleeping in. But, Jill thinks, one thing at a time.

Realizing that she'd forgotten to transform back, the helmet falls away, metal clicking back until her face and hair are visible as she dropped to her knees beside her to get a better look at her.

"Uh..." she starts, looking a little lost. "I don't think tired even begins to describe it. You were kinda screaming. I thought someone was being murdered. What the heck just happened?"

Jill blinked. No more robot - maybe she wasn't dreaming then. Either way, the person was asking what was wrong with her and um. She didn't have a response for that. Well, she had a response for that but it was just a little bit crazy and she wasn't really ready to tell anyone about that yet. She also wasn't a very good liar so she just blinked again and said the first thing that came to mind:

"I . . . Don't remember."

She couldn't remember - really? That excuse was about on par with cancer as an excuse for why her hair was cut short and she was wearing a wig. Which she was still wearing, thankfully. Jack wasn't stupid enough to leave their current hairstyle on while he was going to prom.
