It took Aki a minute for the voice to register, as well as her surroundings. This wasn't the mansion, and that wasn't mama. And papa was nowhere to be had-

Her eyes widened slightly as it kicked in. She was in a new city with no parents, and this nice lady had taken her - her in. She didn't deserve it. She didn't think she did, at least.

"...Can..." She was somewhat reluctant. "Can I have them easy?"

Maggie nodded. Cooking, this was something she could do. "Sure," she said, and began to heat her skillet. While it was heating she put some bread down in an old toaster she found at a junk sale.

"Did you sleep okay?"

"Mmm..." Aki wiped her eyes. "It was okay."

As okay as it could be when the only dreams she had were those of her papa leaving her. It's apparent on her face otherwise, that she's had better nights.

Maggie cracked the eggs, careful not to break the yolks, and dropped them into the pan.

"I'm sorry. It's not much of a bed." She paused, trying to figure out how to approach the situation. She wanted to make sure the girl was taken care of, but wasn't exactly sure what to do with someone as small as Aki. Anita was about 10 when Maggie and Michelle had taken her in, and Aki seemed a bit younger.

"You can stay here as long as you like. I was thinking, if that's the case, we should find you some better blankets."
