DAY ONE - The City to Blacksburg, Virginia

[AKA: Fishtailing and How to Be an Awful Backseat Driver in Wintertime. Because Jaime is an awful backseat driver in the winter time. Darker spots on the road are automatically black ice. Every stop sign/light must be stopped at WAY too early, and...well, eventually even he gets sick of hearing himself be a worrywort and slinks down in his seat, propping his knees up on the back of the passenger chair.]

How about you direct the music for a while before I have to get Abby to ducttape your mouth shut?

Hey, no bondage in the ca--ow-! [a dull clink as one of the tapes hits his knee and disappears.] Dang. This thing doesn't even have a cd player does it? [thanks, Mister Stark.] These things got liner notes or do I just pick a random one and hope it's not Celine Dion?

DAY TWO - Blacksburg, Virginia to Benton, Arkansas

[He hasn't checked his communicator in over a day - truth be told, he doesn't really find all that much use for it as is, since he spends more of his time worried about getting crime off the streets, getting homework taken care of and sorting things out about his upcoming place with the Avengers

[Brenda leans on the car next to him, fresh off a bathroom break and tucking into a lime green slushie she picked up at the quikstop attached to the gas station. It's tasty. She's missed lime drinks.]

[Mark presses the button to log off, tucking the communicator in his pocket. As much as his identity and alias are used on the network, he's used to keeping his business as Invincible away when someone - namely Brenda - shows up to remind him that right now, he's Mark Grayson.

Mark can't help but wince at the mention of the City as 'home', but doesn't comment on it.]

... Guess not. [After a beat, he gives her an awkward smile.] You never know if something's crazy starting up back there.

DAY THREE - Benton, Arkansas to Odessa, Texas

[Brenda likes being the driver. Being the driver means she gets to call she shots on things like windows up or down, radio volume, and most importantly what constitutes a rest stop.

This... is not a rest stop. This is a place she would be reluctant to open her doors at if they weren't scraping the bottom of the gas tank for fuel.

It is the most run down creepy looking dimly-lit-in-the-approaching-darkness gas bar she's ever seen in her life.]

Anybody besides me feel like we just rolled onto the set of 'Splinter'?

DAY FOUR - Odessa, Texas to El Paso, Texas and Juárez, Mexico

CHRISTMAS EVE DAY!

[ The one thing Abby knows she wants to do when they finally arrive in Mexico is stretch her arms and legs out-- in the best way possible. It feels like she's been cooped up in a car for ages, and what better way to introduce herself to Mexico than experience the sky? ]

Hey, guys? [ A little looking around, to see who's not busy unpacking or anything. ] I'm, uh-- gonna hit the clouds for a little. Anybody wanna come?

[He looks at Brenda and Jaime for their reactions, turning his head to Abby shortly after. He doesn't quite smile, but he's half-way there.]

... Sounds good to me.

[ A pause, then a tentative smile. Abby reaches for her goggles, tugging them down around her neck before turning to go. A little wave good-bye to everyone else, then she gestures for Mark to follow. ]

Okay. Um-- let's hit the skies then.

[there were two reasons for sneaking out of sight from Brenda and Mark. the first was legitimate: Abby time. the second was to be unsaid as Jaime risks getting punched stupid over it: Brenda and Mark time.]

This way--[squeezing her hand, he pulls her around a corner and through a small crowd, towards the market.]

We have a few missions today, Abs. I need to get like, a billion postcards for everybody stuck back up north, for one.

[ Abby's not complaining about being out and about. As much as it makes her look like a silly white tourist-- which she is, anyway-- she can't help being totally interested in everything. It's definitely not Illinois, and it's a good thing that between the two of them, somebody knows where they're going. ]

Mission totally accepted! Postcards are so Level One. [ She smiles in his direction before her eyes wander again. ] What else do we need?

Uhhh--[a moment, on that. it flew out of mind while looking for a street sign.] Oh! Yeah, I'm kind of a loser and didn't get Christmas presents in advance for everyone yet. So there's that, too. And whatever you want, too. That's required and implied, though.
