Whether it was intuition or something else, Rua felt himself stirring of his own volition a moment before he heard anything else. Rubbing his eyes and letting out a low groan, he slowly sat up and looked around.

"Ruka...?" He muttered. A few seconds later, he heard a scream of his own name and felt a shiver run through his entire body. He was already hitting the floor and running for her room before he even realized it. It took him all of a couple seconds to get to her room and throw the door open.

"Ruka!" He said, running to her bedside. "What?! What's wrong?!"

He never slept this early to begin with; having been sitting up in his recliner with a book regarding early societies and their punishment structures, there was no possible way for him to have missed that scream.

The book fell forgotten to the floor--Edgeworth had never treated a book that way in his life, but it had hardly seemed to matter to him then--and he jolted out of the chair, following the short path through the kitchen, first and second hallways, and then to her room.

"Ruka!?"

All the force of an objection, none of the surety or bravado.

She stopped screaming the moment she could hear running, her eyes fixed on her arm. It had been a very, very long time since the mark had lain dormant under her skin - glowing only occasionally when she was a child, but always disappearing shortly thereafter. But this... the mark wasn't just hiding, waiting for the moment when she would be needed as a Signer. It was gone, no mark or trace or weight in her heart to assure her otherwise. Gone, as if it had never been there to begin with.

The bedroom door flung open, and Rua was almost crashing onto her bed for how fast he arrived. Ruka pinched her lips between her teeth and, scared and anxious and terrified for what this meant, Ruka grabbed onto Rua for something stable, her voice shaking. Even Uncle Edgeworth was coming into the room, and even with them both there it felt like her world was cracking at its strongest foundation.

"It's gone," she murmured, everything straining her voice. "My birthmark's gone!"

Rua had to see her arm for himself before it truly occurred to him what was going on. As he felt Ruka hold on to him, he grabbed her arm, inspecting it as if the mark was gone by some trick of the light.

"H...how...what..." He gulped. "How is it gone?! Did it go to somebody else?!" He asked. "...is Yuusei or Jack here?!" Rua had, after all, seen this before, but...this was incredibly different in how Ruka had reacted then and how she was reacting now - he doubted it was Yuusei or Jack.
