He was on the way to the library at the time, meaning to research both the legality of medically-induced comas for the incredibly dangerous, and the punishments already in existence for animal murderers. It would be best to get there before the City proper woke and went about its business--he had no intention of getting caught in whatever that day's storm of horrors would end up being.

As came closer to the alley, he noticed a scratched-up young man talking to something in the alley--almost as if there were someone in there he himself couldn't see. Concerned, hoping that someone hadn't been hurt--hoping that the other wasn't responsible for that injury if they were--he walked briskly towards the stranger.

"You there," he said, gruffly. "Is everything all right?"

He jumped a little bit when he heard the man. Honestly, he hadn't been expecting someone to show up while he was talking to to the stray. At least the stranger wasn't a monster ( ... )

Edgeworth peered down the alley but couldn't see anything--clearly, the other man had better vision than he did. Of course he did; what a stupid thought that was. He wore glasses. Most people had better vision than he did.

He pushed them up with a finger and frowned, thinking. He had business to attend to, but--helping the innocent didn't just mean human beings, then, did it? Surely there was time for this. The poor fellow seemed so distraught, and he'd had a point about the rampant destruction of animal life as of recent...

Edgeworth followed the stranger curiously, and quietly, wondering if there were anything he might be able to do do be of assistance.

He did so miss Pess.

"May I be of some help?" he asked, quietly, hoping not to frighten the alleged dog any more than had already been done.

That surprised Courage. He knew the City was full of heroes, but someone offering him help on something, especially helping with a stray animal, was unusual to say the least. It wasn't so unusual that he couldn't form a reply in a few seconds though.

"I, uh, yeah I'm sure you can. Can you go around the other side of him?" he asked, trying to remain as quiet as the man was. "I think if we can get him on both sides he won't be able to get away too quickly, hopefully not at all."

Courage kept himself from trying to trust or like the man too much from just this one act of kindness. He didn't know him too well after all, but that didn't mean that Courage was about to show him unkindness. In fact, if the other looked over at all he would see a small smile of appreciation for the act all the same.
