Day after her Network post inthirds January 22 2012, 21:25:23 UTC
As promised. As needed, perhaps - and in more ways than one. The cold wasn't inspiring him to work any harder on his own, for one, and he was starting to psych himself out with...other things. He needed to stop doing that.

Thank goodness Cass was back. A distraction would be nice, of course, but she was one of the few people he'd gotten comfortable being around in that City.

"Hello?" he called as he entered, peering around the empty foyer and dragging a heel against the mat at the door. "Cass?"

After a few moments, Cass emerged from the changing rooms in the back of the building. He'd caught her between workouts, and she was running a towel through damp hair as she stepped out onto the matted floor. She felt like she'd never been gone at all, so it was easy to slip back into the usual routine. Which meant training all hours of the day.

"Oh. Hi, Zelgadis," she said with a smile upon noticing him, and motioned for him to come on in. She tossed the towel over the head of a training dummy and walked out into the center of the room to meet him.

He brightened at seeing her, which was probably a little silly. Of course she was around and alright - it'd been, what, a day? And he'd seen her on the Network.

Even so. Live and in-the-flesh was a great comfort.

"Hey. Did I catch you in the middle of something-?"

"No. Just finished... over there." She pointed a thumb toward a punching bag, lumpy and misshapen from the sheer number of fist and foot impressions. It was probably a miracle that it hadn't self-destructed yet.

"Hand-to-hand first?" she asked in her usual direct manner. If he was at the dojo, then he was there to train, after all.

[Max keeps her word and shows up at the dojo at about five after work, having changed to sweats first. She sets her bag down on a chair and looks around for Cass.]

[Her last class of the day had just finished, and a group of elementary school-aged kids passed by Max and filed out the door. They looked exhausted, but not unhappy. Cass waved at them from the back of the dojo before noticing Max and walking over to meet her.]

Hey. You came.

[Max smiles at her.]

I did. It's nice to see you again, and back safely. How are you?

Good. You?

[She removes her gi, revealing more informal workout attire underneath. After all, Max wasn't here just to talk. Hopefully.]

Especially after her training with the police, Maggie realized she needed to brush up on some hand-to-hand. Cass had told her she was welcome anytime -- and Maggie had sparred with that nice Miss Summers that one time here as well.

She wandered in, her nose in a book as usual (it appeared to be an AWFUL harlequin romance with Fabio on the cover), a duffle bag in her other hand.

Cass had noticed Maggie the moment she entered the dojo--it was difficult to overlook someone that tall, after all. She smiled and silently closed the distance between them, wondering if Maggie would notice her or if she was too engrossed in her book.

"What's that?" she asked suddenly, trying to bend around and peer at the cover of the book.

Cass was very good at quiet, and while Maggie was good at being alert when she needed to be, she wasn't exactly on her guard. So Maggie didn't notice until Cass was right beside her. She was a little startled, but smiled.

"It's a romance novel."

Cass wrinkled up her nose at that. Yuck. She glanced at the cover again and quirked an eyebrow at Fabio.

"His hair is, uh..." Long? Flowing? Didn't seem to go with his body? "...weird."

[Kyo's working on boxing-esque exercises on a punching bag at the moment, which isn't terribly surprising, considering his forte tends to be chained punches leading into devastating follow-ups. He's not tense, but he's actually focused, which is surprising in and of itself considering his usually-lax nature when it comes to training.]

[Cass watches from a few yards away. There's something... different about his training today. So whenever he pauses for a second, she approaches.]

Something up?

[And a right-left-uppercut, linked to a kick-

He finally notices Cass watching after a moment, dropping his leg with a slightly sheepish grin.]

Tense, I guess.

[It was weird, honestly. He really had no explanation for it, and he knew that there wasn't anything happening around him lately, plus he had been reassured time and time again that nothing would happen back home until he returned, but at the same time, maybe it was anticipation to get back that was gripping him at this point. Would explain why he was so eager to go at it today.]

[She nods thoughtfully. There was clearly something he needed to get out of his system. And she knew what always worked for her when she felt that way.]

Spar?

[Grunt was frustrated, and for a krogan that was the worst possible thing to ever be. He wanted a fight, needed it, but there had been nothing since those weak tentacled monsters swarmed the City. He'd been promised a good fight here, but he hadn't found it yet.

You can imagine how pleased he was to learn that there was a place he could fight, and where others fought too, but so far he stood near the wall, watching as children practiced kicking each other while wearing pads. He was unimpressed.]

[Laura had spent the last hour teaching one of her classes, mostly a series of grapples designed specifically for the next time they had to spar with Cass's class, and also some kicks. Though her class seemed to not be using much in the way of padding. Oops.]

[She'd noticed the very large, obviously alien person standing near the edge of the room, and could smell the frustration wafting off him. At least, she thought it was frustration...alien smells were something new to her. Still.]

[She headed towards him as class ended, coming to a stop in front of him. ]

...Do you want something here?

[Well, at least one class didn't come off as weak, but unfortunately that was the class that Grunt wasn't paying any attention to.

The krogan knew the girl was coming to him before she stopped and before she spoke. She was one of the few only interesting people here, because of her scent, and the smell of blood that was on her, of death... Scents that didn't just go away.

But she was still small... Smaller than Shepard, even.]

Run along, whelp. I heard I could find a fight here.

[Laura had no intention of moving before, but that just cemented it, and her green eyes narrowed. She did not like the implication that she was weak, not ever, even coming from someone who was just misinformed. She knew that was a silly thing to let bother her and yet...it did.]

You can, but there are only a few people here who would be able to fight you, assuming you are as good as your tone implies. [She crossed her arms.] And I am one of them.
