FATHER TIMES - Garrus, Geddoe, Batwoman, Wind Dancer, Lyra, Hellion, Spider-Man exceptfebruary December 30 2011, 22:35:29 UTC
They came from the date, clawing their way out of thin air. Sunken dark eyes with filmy cataracts peered from wrinkled faces and peeling skin. The robes were old, ripped and torn, with cracked hourglasses stringed at the waist. All thirty-one held large rusted scythes and long tangled white beards ( ... )

Callie had said to be prepared, because something was bound to happen. Julian had agreed with her. Christmas had been too quiet, way too quiet, for a place like this. After everything that had gone on at Halloween and then Thanksgiving, Julian was used to associating holidays with insanity.

Christmas had broken the pattern. New Year wasn't going to be so lucky.

When people started running, he pushed through the crowd in the opposite direction.

"Damn it, get out of the way! Let me see--"

And then he was through, and he saw them. Weird, Ghost of Christmas Future style robed figures with hourglasses hanging from them and scythes in their hands. And they were going for the New Year's Ball, because why the hell not? Of course, the first thing that creepy zombie bearded guys are gonna go for is the shiny New Year's Ball. Obviously. He sent a telekinetic blast at the nearest one, hoping to get the attention of the masses.

"Hey uglies! I don't remember inviting you."

Just great.

The blast knocked the Father Time flat off its feet, sending it sprawling into one of its fellows. It slowly picked itself up, turning its attention to the newcomer. It was made to survive the ravages of an entire year, and its bones almost creaked as it started to lumber towards Julian. Little by little, it got a bit faster in its approached. The one it had knocked into followed, and they both started raising their scythes.

Oh, this was weird. His blast didn't even seem to have hurt them. At least they were coming after him now, which meant two less of them were going after the Ball.

That wasn't enough. Julian knew that, but he couldn't do a whole hell of a lot about the others when he had two on his tail.

"Damn it. You guys have the shittiest timing, you know that?"

Those scythes were gonna be a problem first and foremost. On instinct, he aimed his powers at the scythe that the first one was holding, and tried to push it round. If it worked, he was hoping to get the first ugly to impale the second one. He didn't know what that would do, or if he'd even be able to control the scythes, but he was up for trying.

It worked, although the aim is slightly off. The blast caught the first monster's scythe, sending it towards the other one, slicing the arm deeply.

The second Father Time, the one with the now limp, useless arm doesn't bleed or cry out or make any note of it except an emotionless glance. It was now carrying the scythe in one hand, putting it quite a bit off-balance. It was obviously not capable of healing itself, and perhaps too old and tired after a long year to acknowledge the pain.

Meanwhile, the first one, was already starting to head towards Julian again. It was gripping its scythe tighter now.

"So you can bleed."

Julian set his jaw. He backed up a bit, trying to get more space. They were wounded, but still coming after him, and there were more out there.

Julian hated even thinking that he might need backup. But there were too many of them. Damn it, he had to try and contain this.

Screw that. He could handle it.

"If you can bleed, you can die."

This time he reached for debris from some of the damage they'd caused. He grabbed it with his powers and flung it into the one that was coming closer to him, then focused on the one he'd injured. He tried to throw it back, concentrating his power on its hurt arm.

The one Lyra was chasing after was coming in from the side, ready to attack anyone but focusing on Julian who had been deemed a threat. Another emerged from the crowd on the far side from Lyra, charging towards Julian with its scythe up and to the side, ready to slice.

"What--Lyra?" Julian was half way glad to see her, because he knew Lyra was good. If her teke combined with his, they'd do well here. At the same time, he knew that if she came closer to him, she'd be throwing herself in immediate and obvious danger since apparently the bearded zombies weren't giving up on him.

"Watch out, there's more of them! We need to stop them or they'll tear the street up!"

He feinted to the side, but felt a white-hot slice go through his skin when the scythe hit his arm. That hurt like hell, but he could deal with it. He turned to the creature that hit him with a snarl, and sent a heavy wall of telekinesis against it. He wasn't just trying to block it now. He was trying to pull it apart. He was done playing games.

The combined blasts hit the Father Time and it dissolved into air, letting out a long breathing sound as it did so.

The other took the opportunity to try to attack Lyra, swinging its scythe sideways, the attack having drawn its attention to the girl.

The monster in front of him was gone, but now its buddy was advancing on Lyra. Those guys had been outnumbering him at the start of all this.

Let's see how they liked it. Julian pushed off the ground and used his powers to propel himself hard towards the Father Time's back. He was just hoping to knock it off course.

"Lyra, take it out!"

Sofia landed beside him. This wasn't how she had pictured spending New Years with him. "Need a hand?" she asked, as she gathered debris up in her winds, targeting one that was coming at Julian from a different angle.

The Father Time Sofia was targeting attempted to duck, but it was still struck by some of the debris and blown back, but still in decent enough shape.

Of the two that Julian were dealing with - the uninjured monster was knocked off its feet by the debris and a little out of it. The other, with the injured arm, was thrown back. It's arm snapped clean off, and rather than falling to the ground, the arm simply faded into nothingness as it fell.

"Looks like I just got one," Julian said, watching the broken off hand disappearing. That was weird. These things weren't just monsters, monsters didn't do that. They were magic of some kind, dark magic. Which meant they weren't anywhere close to real, so if they could just hurt them enough, maybe they'd disappear altogether.

He reached to grab Sofia's hand.

"Sofia, combine your powers with mine. Hit it as hard as you can!"

He did the same, aiming a powerful glowing green blast at the already injured Father Time.

Sofia's gripped his hand firmly. They had been in fights together back at the Academy and she was confident in her powers and working with Julian. She blasted a strong biting wind with Julian's blast.

"Did you see where they came from?" she asked, her concentration still on the fight.
