Tonight, everything would change.
Two months. From the thirty-first of October to the thirty-first of December. He had been planning and testing and Lachesis hadn’t grown tired of him. And hours from now it would be the start of a new calendar year.
2012. It tasted sweet, the year. It had come much sooner than he had expected, but now he was ready for it. This year would be his year. With so many of them reformed, so many having been sent home or just never been here - Calendar Man was no longer one of the many, the multitudes. In the City, he was one of the few. In the City, he was one of the special.
The date was like whispers in his ear, and if he listened he could almost hear them. Their old man whispers telling him how the year had gone. How the spring of their lives had turned from summer to fall, and now in their winter they were old and weak. He knew they were there. He knew that it was simple. Call them. Call them and they would come, their whispers forming into limbs, and they would listen to his command. Call them.
He had waited and waited for this, but it needed to be at the right moment, to create the biggest impact; yet still have time to make a stand.
He pushed through the throngs, to get as close as possible. His costume, while flamboyant, didn’t cause much alarm. Just another party-goer. Another person here in Times Square, ready to celebrate the New Year.
And there, the great big ball was being lifted into the air, preparing for its drop.
