SUMMARY: the much anticipated ball is finally here! see all the imPorts and various NPC guests wearing the snazziest of gowns and suits as they talk

[[Again, set after this thread.]]

[As much as Erik and Charles have been enjoying the drinks, dancing and socializing in the ballroom with the other adults, they manage to make time in their evening to head over to the children's room. Erik feels that he owes his grandchildren the courtesy of saying hello and seeing how their evening is going.

Not to mention the added benefit of potentially embarrassing teenagers with the presence of Professor X and Magneto, both dressed up in suits, with Erik's arm draped around Charles' shoulder.]

[Angelica is still in birthday celebration mode, perhaps a bit overdressed for the event, but not especially minding. She was having a good time mixing and mingling with everyone, sipping champagne and generally trying to forget whatever embarrassing thing Pietro was no doubt about to do.]

[Erik smiles as he spots his daughter-in-law. He is glad to see that she seems to be in a better mood than she was when she made her network post the day before.]

You look lovely tonight, Angelica.

[Angelica smiles too, finishing her glass of champagne before walking over to him.]

Thank you, Erik. I've been waiting for an excuse to get all dressed up. How's the night treating you?

I am doing quite well now. [His tone suggests that things were not as pleasant earlier, but have legitimately improved.] And yourself?

I'm feeling much better, thanks. I always feel better after a decent mope.

[Finally, some cool people show up! Seeing as most of the othergirls are taken, and because Tommy could do without an arrow to the crotch courtesy of Kate later on, he's glad to see his awesome, hip grandfather has joined the younger crowd.

But then he notices Erik's not alone, and Tommy's smile fades the tiniest bit. He thought he was just making a big deal out of nothing when he had previously thought of the possibility of having two grandfathers. It doesn't stop him from making his way over to greet the two. Besides, he's got to show off his lovely date.]

Hey, Pops, er... Professor.

[Erik does not notice the way that Tommy's expression changes just slightly. Even if he did, he would not think much of it. He expects some people to be surprised by the sight of he and Charles together at the ball, and even finds some amusement in it when he thinks of such reactions from his grandsons and Charles' students.

He smiles in return, seeming to remain quite comfortable with his arm around Charles.]

Hello, Tommy. I see that someone managed to get you into a suit.

[ It feels an awful lot as if you intend to parade me around as some sort of prize. he whispers into Erik's mind directly as they're walking. He leans close to Erik and sighs, rolling his eyes only slightly as he's held so close alongside him - though it does make him uncomfortable at times. ]

[Erik raises an eyebrow at that. You never seemed so self-conscious before tonight, he replies, half a dozen instances of casual physical contact between the two of them coming to mind-- sitting in a booth at a restaurant with one of them draping their arm over the other's shoulders, sitting on the couch in Charles' living room so close that their thighs touch, letting a touch linger as one pats the other on the back.

Still, I do not see why anyone would not be proud to have you at their side.]

[ Charles picks up on those images easily enough. He figures then that he'd not thought much of them when they'd occurred, and he quietly frowned further to himself. Had those been signs of something? To Erik, it certainly seemed so. Charles did not exactly flirt with men, that was not his thing. Neither was subtlety when he was interested in someone, so it hardly seemed the same to him. Regardless, he shrugged his shoulders and kept walking alongside Erik in such a way.

You are attempting to flatter me. Is that to make me feel more comfortable? he asked, unable to help a bit of the way he chuckled. ]

[Erik gives a bit of a shrug. I am not saying anything that is not true. But yes, I would like for you to be comfortable.]

[ I suppose that I do not have to argue with you making me feel more comfortable. he murmured, laughing very gently aloud. Then he leaned, very slightly, against Erik and allowed him that pleasure for a short moment. ]

[Erik finds himself with the urge to press a kiss to the top of Charles' head, but he refrains, knowing that the other man would likely not appreciate such a gesture in this public of a setting. Still, the thoughts are there.]

I want you to enjoy yourself tonight.

[ Charles was appreciative of the fact that Erik held himself back, and he sighed very softly, smiling in Erik's direction. He slid an arm around him momentarily and squeezed his waist in acknowledgment of his appreciation. ]

I am sure that I will, Erik.

[Erik smiles in return, obviously appreciating the gesture.]

Good. I would not want you to think that I am a bad date.
