SUMMARY: the much anticipated ball is finally here! see all the imPorts and various NPC guests wearing the snazziest of gowns and suits as they talk

[Erik makes his way back to Charles' side off to the side of the dance floor with a set of drinks in hand. It is perhaps their third glasses of the evening, which is really nothing for Erik. His mood seems to have improved considerably since the beginning of the evening, ever since he returned from dragging Charles off to the garden shortly after their arrival. It was not very difficult to decipher that they had been intent on a serious discussion, which has appeared to turn out for the better.]

[ Charles is quiet as he follows along beside Erik, not straying too far from his friend's side as they walk together. He's drinking his liquor quietly, and he's awfully nervous about attempting to dance alongside a man for entirely more reasons than one - though he's doing his best to avoid letting that show, exactly. Hm. ]

Erik-ah, thank you very much.

[manlytear]

[Erik sips at his own drink and offers Charles a reassuring smile. He is perfectly fine with waiting until Charles has another drink or three in him to loosen him up a bit before expecting the other man to share a dance with him.]

Certainly, Charles.

[grooviestmutant]

[ Charles is drinking at an increased speed, and he hopes that Erik is not offended - though only momentarily - by his hesitance to become so close to Erik so quickly. He finishes his drink easily and shrugs his shoulders, sighing somewhat. ]

Erik. -How does one man dance with another, hm? Do you intend to lead?

[manlytear]

[Erik tilts his head just slightly at the question, seeming to consider it for a moment.]

It cannot be much different than dancing with a woman. I do not have to lead, though I think it makes more sense that way... I am taller, after all.

[ Charles just eyes him with both an amused and skeptical expression. He shrugs his shoulders, finishes his glass of drink and sets it aside. He's not sure exactly how humiliating this can be, though it is almost required - one ought to dance at a ball, after all, and Erik did donate to charity for him. Hmph, hmph. ]

-Very well, then. Though I will have you know that I quite expect much from you.

[manlytear]

[Erik chuckles at that and takes another sip of his own drink.]

I will have you know that I am wonderful at ballroom dancing.

[grooviestmutant]

Are you really? Then perhaps you ought to show me. I'm rather a proud man at it myself.

[manlytear]

[Erik finishes off his drink and sets the empty glass aside, smiling and raising an eyebrow as he offers Charles his hand expectantly.]

[ Charles laughed at that and he took Erik's hand - this was all rather foolish, though he was incredibly pleased to share it with Erik regardless. ]

Show me what you've got, then, Erik.

[manlytear]

[Erik chuckles at that and leads Charles to the dance floor, then turns to face the other man once more and places his other hand on Charles' waist. He looks into Charles' eyes as he waits for the other man to become comfortable in their respective positions.]

[ Charles glances down to the hand on his waist and he smiles slightly, though he's obviously rather embarrassed for a moment. He makes himself comfortable and reaches for Erik's hand, preparing himself for playing the role of the follower in their dance. ]

[Erik soon begins moving. He keeps an eye on Charles to make sure that the other man has no difficulty following his steps, but he does not imagine that Charles would-- and not just because the other man is a telepath.]

[ Charles smiles up at Erik then, though he's trying not to look like he's enjoying himself too much. It is easy to follow Erik's lead and Charles almost finds himself impressed. ]

You move as if you have studied.

[manlytear]

[Erik smiles a bit at that. He would almost say the same for Charles, but it goes without saying that the other man would have had lessons of some sort.]

My mother taught me, when I was a child.

[ Charles smiles just a bit at that, patiently, before he's looking almost humbled. ]
