Ned had heard Damian was laid up, somehow, vaguely, through the grapevine. He didn't quite now how, though he could guess. And that was why the pie maker was now here, toting pie and ringing the doorbell.

"Don't get up--" he called through he door. "But I brought pie."

For a moment he wondered if Damian would even recognize him by voice alone. "It's Ned. The-the pie maker."

"I know who you are," Damian called back, but at the same time he was wondering what the hell the guy was doing there. But, he supposed, Ned wasn't bad company, so he reached over for his remote to allow the door to swing open (this is a very high-tech house). "Come in."

"Thanks..." He watched the door with wide eyes, reminded of a house he had been in before. Though it hadn't been a very friendly memory, he trusted Damian and slowly crossed the threshold. "I wasn't sure what you liked so I brought ..options."

Damian looks surprised for a moment, then gestures Ned into the sitting room and towards the coffee table. "Let's see, then."

Alex knew everything, or at least he wanted to. So it wasn't any kind of surprise he knew what went down between Damian and the Joker. Much less that he knew it was the kid's birthday.

Damian was the kind he didn't usually feel like he was wasting time with when he spoke with him, which was rare and more treasured than Alex'd ever admit. The kid didn't know the whole game, but he was sharp and caught onto things quickly. He was worth appreciating.

Which is why Alex was waiting on the front step with a gift bag, ringing the doorbell.

Dick and Damian had designed the entire house from scratch, building in security and gadgetry into the already-standing structure of the firehouse. So from the small laptop he had with him, he could see Alex standing at the door, and could let that door swing open automatically.

"What are you doing here?"

Alex pokes his head in, then leans against the doorjamb when he sees Damian on the couch. "Heard you were laid up here, figured it was no way to spend a birthday. You gonna let me in?" Since the door opening didn't seem invitation enough with the greeting being what it was.

Damian just nodded, which probably wasn't the easiest gesture to see, so he shifted into a seating position, and called out, "Alright, alright. Come in."

Caught already. But it was Lyra, so it wasn't as bad as if Grayson or Brown had found him. He didn't smile, but his expression was as pleasant as could be expected.

"I got bored."

He reached for the cookies automatically, but at the same time blurted out, "How did you know?" This effectively ruined any chances he had of denying it.

There was a timid knock on the front window of the Robin House. Cass could be seen peeking through the blinds, a nondescript box held under her arm. Normally, she would have just slipped into the house undetected, but given who lived there, it probably wasn't such a good idea.

Her presence actually came as a surprise. Damian hoisted himself onto his elbows to see better, then hobbled his way across the room to lift open the window. "Cassandra."

"Hi. Happy birthday," she said with a small smile, slipping through the window. She'd wait until he sat back down to give him his box, which contained a package of homemade cupcakes and some training gear (a couple collapsible bo-staffs, ninja stars, etc. Probably stuff he already had, but she knew she'd like it for her birthday).

In his quest to be utterly miserable, Damian had planned to tell no one and thereby fulfill his own prophecy of being alone and unwanted. Apparently, however, the world had other plans. So he moves away from the window, leaning against the wall with a slightly confused expression.

"...thanks, I guess. For coming."

As promised, Andromeda had made up a small paper bag full of assorted hard candies -- sherbet lemons, coconut ice, and some (muggle) sugar mice. She may or may not have stumbled upon a British specialty shoppe in the last few days.

She'd also picked up a book (Morality: Its Nature and Justification by Bernard Gert) that she thought Damian might be interested in, along with The Parkour and Freerunning Handbook. He like the roof, after all -- maybe he'd at least enjoy reading it for fun.

She'd headed out early in the day before her afternoon shift, knocking on the front door of the house with the colourfully-wrapped present in one hand and a coffee in the other.

When he saw her face on the security monitor, Damian actually lost the scowl he'd been wearing for the past few days. It took him a moment, but he made his way over to the door and swung it open.

"What's all that?"

She was glad to see that he could at least get around with crutches -- she hadn't really been told by Dick just how badly Damian had been hurt.

"Well, Dick happened to leak that it was your birthday." And she'd gone overboard at the candy store buying herself things, buying things for Damian had just made her feel a little less selfish. She beamed, holding out the box with the oversized ribbon to him.

"And I thought you might want some company while you're laid up, too."

"That traitor," Damian muttered under his breath. He and Grayson had not been having the most functional of conversations lately, once Bruce had arrived in the City and everything that happened. The fact that Dick had still remembered, and cared, made Damian's stomach clench in an uncomfortable way.

But remembering the situation, he moved out of the way and gestured inside. "Oh. You can come in, I guess."
