As promised, Andromeda had made up a small paper bag full of assorted hard candies -- sherbet lemons, coconut ice, and some (muggle) sugar mice. She may or may not have stumbled upon a British specialty shoppe in the last few days.

She'd also picked up a book (Morality: Its Nature and Justification by Bernard Gert) that she thought Damian might be interested in, along with The Parkour and Freerunning Handbook. He like the roof, after all -- maybe he'd at least enjoy reading it for fun.

She'd headed out early in the day before her afternoon shift, knocking on the front door of the house with the colourfully-wrapped present in one hand and a coffee in the other.

When he saw her face on the security monitor, Damian actually lost the scowl he'd been wearing for the past few days. It took him a moment, but he made his way over to the door and swung it open.

"What's all that?"

She was glad to see that he could at least get around with crutches -- she hadn't really been told by Dick just how badly Damian had been hurt.

"Well, Dick happened to leak that it was your birthday." And she'd gone overboard at the candy store buying herself things, buying things for Damian had just made her feel a little less selfish. She beamed, holding out the box with the oversized ribbon to him.

"And I thought you might want some company while you're laid up, too."

"That traitor," Damian muttered under his breath. He and Grayson had not been having the most functional of conversations lately, once Bruce had arrived in the City and everything that happened. The fact that Dick had still remembered, and cared, made Damian's stomach clench in an uncomfortable way.

But remembering the situation, he moved out of the way and gestured inside. "Oh. You can come in, I guess."

"I won't stay too long if you don't want the company," she assured him. "Dick is just trying to make sure you have a good birthday, I think. Don't hold it too much against him."

She stepped into the house, though, and nodded to him. "It's too bad we're not in the wizarding world here. I could've brought you a potion with skele-grow in it and you'd have been in tip-top shape in no time."

"No, it's fine. You can stay." This about as close as he'll come to saying he wants her there. He leads her back into the sitting room, gesturing towards the arm chairs.

"Magic must be useful that way."

"It is. I don't know how useful it is against guns and the like, though. Most of the functional spells I've seen used here haven't been protective against bullets."

She settles into one of the chairs, still holding her coffee in one hand.

"Are you feeling all right, though?" Whether she's asking about how he's handling the birthday or the injury is anyone's guess.

Damian's response is a shrug. "I am feeling as well as can be expected." If he's truthful, he's been less upset about the injuries than what he deems as his failure in front of his father, but the injury is bad in its own way, particularly because it makes him remember his mother isn't here to just automatically fix things. "...I have five more weeks of healing time, however."

Andromeda raises an eyebrow. "If you like, I can ask my friend here whether he can figure out ingredient substitutions to make a batch of skele-gro up for you. It's a painful process, but it'll regrow the bone much faster."

It's not exactly pleasant to be a young man who has to get around on crutches.

Damian just shook his head. Whether because of his self-imposed punishment or because of his entire family's disdain for the supernatural, it was one offer he couldn't accept.

"I prefer to do things the scientific way."

"If you're sure about that."

She won't fault him for not wanting to use magic. She -- couldn't blame some people, considering what magic could do in the wrong hands. "Let me know if you change your mind."

Damian just shakes his head. "I won't."

Andromeda nods. That was his prerogative, after all.

"Have you gotten anything interesting yet? I hope Dick is going to be making you a nice dinner." Or, more realistically, taking him out for one.

"I wouldn't know. Grayson hasn't been home all day." And it's not as if Damian keenly notices this, or anything.

She doesn't want to tell him that he's probably planning something; Damian's smart enough to figure that out for himself if he thinks hard enough about it. She hopes that's what Dick is doing, at least.

"Hm, how strange."

Damian...honestly doesn't expect anything from Dick. They hadn't mentioned the date beforehand, and he had never celebrated with this family beforehand. Except Christmas, but that had been...interrupted.

"Not really. He's always out doing useless things."
