SUMMARY: Charles continues his valiant efforts to get Erik to loosen up.
FORMAT: prose
Erik tilted his head back as he swallowed the remainder of his glass of scotch. He set the glass down on the table, returning his attention to Charles. His friend had desired to get Erik to "loosen up" through a night out, and he did not find himself opposed to such an idea.
Saying that his weeks in the City had been stressful was a bit of an understatement. He was adjusting to the sudden change in scenery and time period rather well, all things considered. It was some of the people he had encountered that were making it an ordeal for him. He was still grasping with the knowledge that he had an entire family that he had not previously known about. While he found himself enjoying getting to know his grandson, it still left an uneasy feeling inside when he thought about his son's attitude toward him.
Though he was unconcerned about his own drinking, he had made a firm decision to keep an eye on Charles' alcohol consumption tonight. He did not disapprove of drunkenness, but he could not help but recall the last time that Charles had gotten drunk-- or rather, behaved much more drunkenly than Erik suspected that he truly was at the time. He had been somewhat annoyed to find out about the riots that had been occurring while they had been holed away in a small bar. It had been awfully convenient that no one in the bar had seen fit to mention what was happening elsewhere in the City, that no one had thought to change any of the televisions in the bar to a channel where a newscast may have been shown, and that Charles had kept Erik distracted from his communicator for almost the entire evening. He supposed that he should be upset with Charles for manipulating him in such a way, but part of him almost wanted to applaud his companion for the skillfulness of it.
For the time being, Erik was trying to keep his mind off of such things. He ordered another drink when the waitress passed by and focused his gaze on the man across the table from him when she had left. "So, how have your efforts to catch up on the developments in your field of study been going?" Erik was always quite interested in Charles' ramblings on genetics, which seemed to set him apart from many others they knew.
