early afternoon, because i can. brevipennate August 1 2011, 00:10:20 UTC
[The weather was milder than it had been over the last week, and so Nill decided that it was time for another walk. She had donned her least embarrassing dress, and put her hair in pigtails to keep her neck cool. The blonde let her wings stretch out behind her;t hey flitted around, almost seeming happy for the fresh air.

As she walked, the bag slung over her shoulder bounced lightly against her side. Inside were her cell phone, communicator, some money, and the gun Heine had given her. She still wasn't completely comfortable using it, but she carried it everywhere with her, now. She wasn't about to get kidnapped again, not without putting up a fight. Even if she didn't actually use it, she hoped it would serve to scare away anyone who might try to hurt her.

Nill had been out for only about twenty minutes when she passed a shop she had never seen before. She paused in front, small fingers pressing against the window as she stared at the intricate glass figurines. She didn't think she had seen anything so beautiful in her entire life ( ... )

[It's the fluttering girl that he notices; out of all this. Not only is she bizarrely out of place with those clothes (not at all a modern styling, but who can say if Snape's a fashion plate, really?) but -- the little fluttering bringing her off the ground? That's... That's truly strange.]

[And he needs to know what those are.]

Pardon my curiosity miss, but are those wings charmed to your back?

[She must be a witch with an odd fashion sense, right?]

[She noticed his reflection in the glass before he spoke, and she could swear her heart stopped. Her muscles froze, her wings stopped flapping and she landed softly on the concrete. But his question caught her off guard, made her forget her fear for a moment. She turned, intrigued as well, and shook her head in response. Charmed sounded like a word Sirius would use, but this man didn't look much like Sirius except for his dark hair.

And now she was too curious to worry about being afraid, blue eyes wide as she looked him over. He was dressed nicely enough, even if he didn't look very nice. But neither did Heine, to someone who didn't know him. Nill's wings flicked behind her back again.]

You don't speak?

[He's a perceptive man, Severus Snape. She didn't make a sound at all when startled. Just fluttered those things, which are... very much attached. They're not decoration, he can see that now.]

[To see her better, he takes off his smoked lenses; peering though his lank hair, he is -- well, it's like being a bug in a bell jar, or so many of his students would relate being examined by Snape. Intense, unwavering, and somewhat disconcerting.]

Those are a part of you, then? Your flesh and blood?

Geddoe, on the other hand, stood out. At least the weather, while hot, wasn't as bad as it had been a week or so ago, so going out in his leather armor wasn't terrible. But after the developments recently, he refused to go anywhere unarmed and unarmored.

He strode up the street with his purposeful gait, another late-thirties-looking man who happened to have an eyepatch and a sword. He glanced at people as he went out of habit, and did a not-so-subtle double-take at Snape. Yes, he was comparing that face to Vector Prime, who he knew - but he didn't say so out loud. The glance was probably obvious enough.

One double-take is returned, because ... Merlin, is that guy walking around with a sword? In public? Even wizarding villages discouraged that sort of thing. What was he doing, going to a renn faire? Did they have those silly festivals here?

Hopefully they're not going to run into anybody while they're both trying to figure the other out.

Geddoe was used to people staring. Quite. But nobody had pissed him off so far that day, so he managed a moment's civility - a nod and a gruff "Morning," whether it was still morning or not.

"Good day," he says, before he steps out of the flow of traffic, giving the man a look again.

Nope, best not to aks the strange man with a sword just what the hell he's doing with it, Snape decides. Last thing he needs is a scuffle with anybody carrying THAT around right now.

Davesprite is, as usual, listening to music too loud and really, really enjoying New York City. He's a little too young to actually go clubbing, but the indie music scene and tagging crews are fantastic, and he's just gotten back from buying a whole bag full of spray paint.

The problem with listening to loud music is that you often don't pay atention to where you're going, so he actually manages to plow right into Snape on his way to the subway.

That problem causes Snape a problem. Being entirely unwell and probably pushing himself a little too quickly where being very physical is concerned-- especially after that ill-thought out duel with Sirius Black--he's less than stable. So when this strange-looking kid comes around a corner much too fast, with those blaring headphones on--

--Snape goes down like a sack of potatoes in a nice suit. Smoked lenses fly off his face, clatter to the ground and one cracks.

"Bloody-- you--" catching his breath after the impact, the rage and pain is there, but it's not quite able to vent what with needing more oxygen to do so.

"Oh fuck," he says, facepalming and whipping off his headphones. Davesprite may be a jerk, but he's not a big enough of a jerk that he's letting some dude he fell into fall down like that.

Superspeed's helpful. He doesn't get to the glasses before they crack, but he does snatch them up and is almost instantly holding out his other hand hand to the tall weird guy he just bowled into to help him up.

"Hey dude, jesus, sorry about that, got lost in my own thoughts there. You ok?"

Righted and assisted and -- how did the boy do that? So fast? He's -- shaking his head to clear it, before peering at the ... young man. He's not quite sure what to make of Davesprite, but it's not enough to smother the irritation at being careened into.

"Being lost in your thoughts is for quite, safe places like libraries, churches or other places of study," Snape said, taking up his glasses and peering at them. "Not the street, boy."

He draws his wand, a moment later, and taps them once, uttering, "Reparo," as he does so. Fixed glasses, just like... well, the obvious answer is magic, isn't it?

Since Aphrodite had returned to the City, she'd been even more flighty than usual. Before she at least stayed in a room at the MAC (or with various well to do mortals). Part of that was the need to eat and sleep, which was now gone. Now she flickered from place to place and kept the room at the MAC only for storage.

Tonight she found herself in a park. Even after a year the city still reminded her of Tartarus. Which reminded her of Hades. Which led to other bad thoughts. The park was far more relaxing, the trees and flowers much nicer to look at.

The bench wasn't that comfortable, but it was a good place to mortal watch. She could usually find some fun love struck/sick mortal to distract her. If no one came around here, she could always teleport somewhere else.

The park was a good place to figure out whether or not any magical plants grew wild. They cropped up in the oddest places, sometimes -- herbology specialists would often find themselves in Muggle groundskeeper positions, just to make sure that Devil's Noose hasn't found it's way to a Muggle nature preserve, or other places ( ... )

Aphrodite was very adept at reading mortals' faces when it came to matters of love. She was bad at it when if they were upset for any other reason but love she could figure out. He was reeking of unrequited love. Aphrodite would place dinar that the woman was already married. Tough break.

Attention grabbed she looked harder to see if she could pick up anything else, and instead saw, "Vecty?"

He looked so similar to him, but the expression on his face was so not. She hoped that if Vector Prime ever found a love he would at least TELL her first. Now she had to go over and investigate.

She disappeared from her bench and reappeared right next to him. The flash of gold that disappeared in sparkles would show that it was not a typical aparation. "Rough day?"

Snape startles, visibly, at the sudden flurry of gold and the sudden explosion of floral perfume in his general direction. The light was dimming enough that he took off his glasses see her clearly and--

--well, you don't get much more radient then a love goddess, do you?

"Excuse me?" he managed after a moment. "What the devil are you on about?" Only Severus Snape would choose to mouth off to said goddess.

Oh dear.

That's not the first time he's heard that name, but-- he best find out about this man who shares his face.

He stops just before the odd boy and takes off his glasses, squinting at him.

"Young man, I'm not this 'Vector' person. My name is Severus Snape. I've been informed we bear a striking resemblance, however..." He tucks the glasses away, Bakura having his full attention for the moment.

"So I've been told," replies the man who was not Vector. "Who is this man? If I have a doppleganger I've yet to meet, I should like to know who he is."

If just to head off possible trouble.
