He didn't want to go back, he'd decided. Despite the pitfalls and intrusions, he'd been a lot happier to leave the bustle of the City behind him and take to fresher air and greener scenery. Almost like home, but never quite so, and that wasn't even a problem. He hadn't had much of a home back there since Rezo uprooted everything, so...no dire regrets there. To say he dragged his heels a bit on their way to the dock wasn't much of a lie, but she said it was probably a good idea. And Geddoe was back there, anyhow, and Cass; Zelgadis couldn't abandon the City entirely.

It was certainly no cruise, and steel floors weren't much for the makings of restful sleep, but he was tired. They countered each other in sleep almost always; one was out like a light while the other only dozed, it seemed, and the roles were reversed for a good portion of the journey. He woke up alone, distressed until his bearings were gotten again, and set to seeking Terra out ( ... )

Not that Zelgadis of all people could surprise her, anyway. There was no tensing or relaxing, for there was no need to become tense, and she was mostly relaxed enough. Neither was there turning to look over her shoulder--the halt nearly prompted it, but Zelgadis moved once more before she committed to the motion.

Terra looked his way only once he was beside her; she would have reached over, to either grab at his hands, or to push that mess of wire out of his face, but she was leaning on her elbows on the railing. Instead, she smiled, tilting her head to force the bangs out of her eyes. There were still flowers in her ponytail.

"I didn't wake you this time, did I?"

"No," he murmured, smiling small. "You're fine." As always. He liked the look and smell of her hair in general, but the flowers helped. He picked those out. Not exactly the forte of a heartless swordsman sorcerer, and you could be damn sure he wasn't about to brag about it, but he was proud enough of the contribution.

"But did you sleep at all?"

Picked them out and promptly avoided being anywhere near her when she found them, of course. As usual. She didn't always understand why he acted this way or that, but it didn't detract from liking it.

"Some," she conceded, and even in the partial darkness it was not hard to see fatigue around her eyes. "Not a lot."
