The world was much too large to see in only one trip. It was almost disappointing in a way, abandoning the trek without seeing every nation of even that one continent, but the month had been long and the City, once more, in turmoil. Stops in towns along the way usually led to camping out in this pub or that electronics store with the television blasting out the latest news. This person is dead, this place is under attack, this town is unstable, and so on, and so forth. It wasn't like they could do anything about any of it from Turkey, and it wasn't likely they'd be much use even back in the City proper, but there was still a chance.
She should have been asleep for the late hour, but Terra was too restless; like their departure, Terra loitered at the bow of the ship, the warm of night overpowered by the chilly mist of the sea. Goosebumps prickled on the backs of her shoulders, but she didn't notice it at all. Each night as they got closer to land, fewer and fewer stars seemed to hang in the sky, and now that canopy was almost entirely blacked out. The air was clear; lights from the City were a long, bright wall in the closing distance. It felt strange to be looking at it from the outside, and after so long away. She wasn't sure what emotion she felt, staring at the towering skyline and the smattering of electrical lights reflecting and smearing across the water, but it sure was something.
