Hank thought it might be rude to invite James to the mansion and be absent the whole time, so he decided it was time to pay a visit. Classes were out for the day, after all, so he had a bit of free time.

He spotted James out in the yard with the dog, and gave them a wave as he was still a little ways off. Even in New York, it was never hard to spot him from a distance.

He'd only just gotten back, in fact, but Hank had yet to hear about it at that point. As far as he knew, he was still dead. "Well, he was a great man. Things weren't really the same afterward. But...how did you get his shield?"

"It's a bit of a long story, but an evil robot called Iron Captain America was using it, and mine was destroyed in the fight against the Iron Avengers. I've been using this shield ever since," James explained. It was a little depressing to know his dad was dead where Hank was from too.

"Ah, a replica. Of course." It wouldn't be the real one, couldn't be. But... "What about the one you had before?"

James shook his head when Hank said it was a replica.

"No. It's not a replica. The real one had been gone for a while. I was using an energy shield Tony made, Iron Widow shot it out. It was an eventful fight," James said, running his hand along the edge of his father's shield.

"So you're saying these Iron Avengers had it?" Well, that leads to the next obvious question. "But what were they?"

"Robots. Tony made them, but they weren't being used... I accidentally activated them." James still felt bad about that. He'd led Ultron right to their home.

"They were on our side at first, and Iron Captain America had a replica shield until they were all taken over and turned against us by Ultron."

This whole story was beginning to leave him dizzy. "So, Ultron gave it the Real McCoy, then?"

James nodded. "I saw it when we invaded Ultron's citadel to rescue Tony, but I didn't have time to grab it then," He explained, and he realized he probably wasn't doing the best job explaining it.

"Most of the adult heroes were killed by Ultron. My team and I survived because Tony had us hidden for most of our lives. Pym was just a baby when we were taken to the secret base."

A Pym? They were hidden by Tony? These all seemed to fit his suspicions. Might as well come out with it, then. "You're his son, aren't you?

There was a brief pause, and then James made the realization that Hank wasn't saying he was Tony's son. He nodded.

"I'm Captain America's son," James said.

Several of the Avengers had already figured out or been told. James wasn't going to lie about it. He was proud of his parents.

He chuckled a bit. "Well, I can see the resemblance, come to think of it. Might've noticed it a while ago, really."

But that didn't answer everything. "So, who was your mother? Sharon?"

"Who's Sharon?" James asked curiously. Obviously, she wasn't his mother, but James wondered how close she was to his dad for Hank to ask.

Well, I guess that answers the question. "She and Steve were...romantically involved for a time."

That was really weird to hear. Not quite as bad as being told his mom was in the city and in a relationship, but weird.

"Oh," James didn't know what else there was to say about that, so he added, "My mother is the Black Widow."

Oh. Well, no real way to make that any less awkward, given her relationship with Bucky.

"...Does she know this?"
