He already knew how this was going to end. But if Shiva taught him that there's always someone better, then Richard taught him that it wasn't always about the fighting, the winning, to begin with. He was called here so they could learn about him, but he had a fair bit to learn as well.

Cassandra Cain. Rumor had it she might've been Shiva's daughter, and the only fighter better. They say she's fluent in body language. A place like this would be he natural element. Vic had heard a lot about her, but it was time he finally saw it for himself, curiosity demanded it.

And so, he found himself striding into the School of Thunder. Underdressed for most occasions, but this was a rare situation that called for a blue t-shirt and black trackpants.

"So. You're Cassandra."

Her class had just ended, and the kids filed into the back room to change. Cass was still in her gi, with her hair tied back in a messy ponytail. The resemblance between her and Shiva was uncanny, and even the way they carried themselves was similar: both had the grace and confidence of someone in total control of every muscle.

"Yes," she replied as she wiped her forehead with a towel. "You're... the Question?" Selina had mentioned that he might be by, though she wasn't really sure what to expect from him.

"Well, Vic is the name I prefer with this face." He tapped his nose with a smirk, then offered his other hand in greeting. "You'll know when it's right to use that other one."

"Okay," she replied simply, accepting his hand in a rather firm handshake.

"Want to be... a teacher?"

How about Monday (04/11) morning? a_relative_hero April 10 2011, 23:17:28 UTC
Joel had heard about the dojo from a few people. Nothing specific, just that it was there and that it was good. Reasoning that he needed to learn how to fight properly if he was going to be a superhero, he decided to check the place out.

In his civilian clothes, Joel went down to the School of Thunder dojo on Monday morning. Lingering outside a moment to make sure they were open, Joel stepped into the dojo and looked around.

"Umm. Hello?" he called, hoping something crazy like a random ninja-attack wasn't about to happen.

The dojo was mostly quiet, with maybe a few people training individually. Cass herself was beating on a punching bag and dressed in regular workout attire instead of her gi. When the door opened and she heard Joel enter, she took a break from her workout and turned her attention to him.

"Hi." She was still working on the whole 'welcoming prospective customers' thing.

"Hi," Joel offered a slightly nervous smile. "Sorry if I'm interrupting. I was looking for whoever's in charge here. Wanted to see about maybe taking some classes here"

She looked momentarily lost, and then the realization dawned on her. "Oh. Um. That's me," she said, giving him an awkward smile of her own. "I'm Cassandra. You've... trained before?"

Tryouts? borntobewildcat April 11 2011, 00:18:04 UTC
Tom must have been insane to decide to be an instructor, a fighting one, no less. It was a terrible idea, he hated fighting, despite how hypocritical it made him. Yet, there was something about teacher kids how to defend themselves that really was appealing, and without his father around to force him into the ring, he actually found that he missed the routine and the practice.

So, here he was, in his panther form, arms crossed and looking completely displeased with the situation. Really, he didn't even know why he even bothered to show up, considering he'd have to fight this Cassandra girl, who was said to fight on Shiva's level... He wasn't even at Pop's level yet. Oh yeah, he'd be sore after this.

At least it wasn't hard to tell who he was. When Cass came out of the back room, she didn't even bother asking.

"Ready for test?" she asked, cracking her knuckles and stretching her legs in what was probably not an entirely reassuring display.

Oh man, he was not looking forward to this. Mini-Shiva was even threatening while stretching. Surprisingly though, he didn't let it show too much, instead channeling the stubbornness that he reserved for when his dad tried to bond with him in the ring.

"What are the rules?" There was no way he could beat her in a fair fight, so whatever advantages he had, he'd have to use. Hence the catform, which had better reflexes, agility, and flexibility. If anything goes, he could use his tail as well, if the opportunity presented itself. Boxing probably wouldn't lend itself well to a fight with her either. He's use the little Krav Maga he knew, along with whatever he could call his catlike tendencies.

"We fight. You... try to win," she said simply. Even if he used any superpowers, she would be able to tell whether he had what it took to be a teacher or not. Obviously, he was trying out for a martial arts instructor position, so fighting wildly and without skill wouldn't do the trick.

/sneaks in here for... tryouts??? bedeviledspider April 13 2011, 14:10:26 UTC
Reilly was drinking a bottle of water when he walked in, clad in workout clothes, his costume most definitely "not" stashed away in the duffel bag he was carrying with him. Because he would never, ever go out on a little warm up patrol before tryouts.

Not that he was worried about how this would go. He already had the job, but it just... didn't seem right to not test himself for Selina and whoever else might be running the place now. Whoever they were. What if they'd found a better teacher for his kids? It wouldn't be - ugh, he hated to think it, but - responsible not to make sure they were getting the best education possible.

He was snapped out of his reverie the second he spotted Cass, jogging over to her with his usual dorky smile. Maybe she would know who he needed to see.

Cass stopped pulverizing a punching bag long enough to give Reilly a smile.

"Hi," she said, a little surprised to see him. His class wasn't for a few hours, and it was obvious that he'd been out on patrol, so a workout didn't seem too necessary. Unless he was adopting a Cass-esque workout routine. "Training?"

Reilly gave the poor punching bag a pitying glance, before turning back to Cass.

"Not quite," he said, looking a bit sheepish. "Although that might not be such a bad idea... I'm trying out, actually. Er, again." It sounded a lot stupider when he said it out loud.

She looked a little dumbfounded for a minute, which probably didn't help it seem any less stupid. "...Why?" He was already a teacher, after all.
