Vic is on his way home from seeing to a few things. There was something intriguing about the park, like an entirely different environment placed in the middle of the city, that he enjoyed. Plus ghost!shadow!Jackie wanted to see the zoo. He walks along when he sees what he's pretty sure is a familiar face, brooding on a park bench.

With shadows in tow, he decides to engage, wandering up from behind. "Having fun?"

It's not an intrusion he's expecting, but right now it's far from unwelcome. He's seen enough shadows that the off-kilterness of it isn't off-putting, and the smile he offers is mostly real.

"Wouldn't miss it."

"Richard Grayson, right?" he asks, a little slyly. He turns around and points to the shadows on the ground behind him, one a six-year-old girl and the other a tall, muscular woman. "This is Jackie, Helena you already know." He points to his own shadow, which is wearing a hat that he isn't, "That is the Question." And finally, he extends his hand to Dick, "And I'm Vic Sage. I don't think we'd ever properly met without our masks on."

He tenses a little at the mention of masks, but he takes the hand and gives it a firm shake. "That's right. Good to meet you."

His eyes go to the shadows; first Helena's, then the Question's, then finally the smaller one. He's not really sure, suddenly, if it'd be appropriate or insulting to offer a greeting.

"So, uh," And the awkwardness is stretching out. "You just get here?"

While Dick is busily creepering at people in the park, there is someone watching him. Aughra leans down from her branch.

"What they do to you?"

If he's felt the eyes on him, he's good at manufacturing some surprise when she speaks up. He looks up and takes off the sunglasses he's wearing. Just in case.

"...Me?"

When in doubt, play dumb.

Aughra snorts. "Who else watch people like spy crystal?"

"Interesting observation from somebody sitting in a tree." He takes another lick of his ice cream.

Dick wasn't the only one out taking out his frustrations on the criminals of the City; Terry was out too. Of course, what with his recent interactions with most of the batfam, he didn't particularly want to run into Dick here, and he was pretty sure that Dick felt the same way. Terry didn't go looking for that kind of trouble, so after he spotted Nightwing, he was ready to turn in another direction. And it would be for the best.

There's a hot flash of anger when he catches sight of Terry; sharp and fierce. If he thinks he's getting out of this confrontation he has another thing coming.

He shoots out another line and gives chase, clinging low to the roof nearby.

that works for me sure why not battothefuture January 17 2011, 02:54:57 UTC
Terry narrows his eyes when he sees Dick following him, but rather than try to lose him (which he might be able to do but which would be more work than he wanted to put into this, especially as it'd do nothing but delay the inevitable) he turns and drops neatly to a nearby gargoyle. He crouches as he waits, looking for a minute rather more like a cat than a bat.

"Could you just get it over with?"

The stopping is pretty far off what he'd been expecting. Just enough that he loosens the grapple he's holding and drops down a short distance away. Still tense. Still ready.

"What do you think I'm gonna do?"

There's only so much hanging out in space with trashy romance novels one can do to avoid shadows. Which is what Kara's been doing most of Saturday. But since she's not really keen on heading back home and having to face the shadows that follow her whenever she moves slow enough, she flies around high around the City, eventually coming down into something that, if she was doing more than just listening, could probably be called patrol.

It's a little bit of a surprise to come across Dick, but she's not going to turn away an opportunity to watch him work and maybe talk a little. She could use a distraction. But she waits until it seems like conversation won't distract him too much to speak up.

"There's a costume I haven't seen in a while."

For the first time in what feels like days he's almost tired enough to take a break - tired enough that the voice comes as maybe more of a surprise than it should.

But it's only Kara there, when he looks up. Hard not to smile at that.

"That a good thing?"

She laughs a little and shrugs at his question. "It's nice to actually see your face, but it's strange. I've gotten used to you with a cape and pointy ears."

Her fingers go up to the sides of her head when she says that, miming the Batears as best she can.

He laughs at that and then takes a short leap over to a roof that's a bit closer. "You wouldn't be the first person here to say that."

[Nill had just gone to the grocery store for some baking ingredients; she was going to make some cookies to take to Heine in the jail. She had been going to visit him every day, and wanted to have something ready to give to him tomorrow.

She's heading down a side street, carrying a paper bag with flour and cocoa and things. It's getting dark out, and the street lights are just coming on now. Her hood is drawn up over her blonde hair, and her wings are nestled beneath her jacket. Suddenly, something... doesn't feel right. She looks behind her, but doesn't see anything weird. So she keeps going.

Unbeknown to her, though, she's being followed by two men, slinking silently behind her.]

[Nill's hardly the easiest kid to miss in a crowd, but its the men that catch his eye first there, down on the street. They're going after something small. Something weak.

They're after someone he recognizes, which... doesn't really change the situation much at all, except that now he has about five seconds to decide whether it's worth the extra minute it'll take to make a quick dive into that alley for a costume switch. Nill doesn't know Dick. No reason to trust Dick.

...And no real reason to trust Nightwing either, but the recognition might help, if it's there after all this time.

He makes a choice and takes the detour, and hopes they're stupid enough to wait to make their move until he's finished.]

[She keeps on walking; unfortunately for both of them, the men don't wait to move. One, tallish and lean, quickens his step until he's in front of her. She didn't hear him come up and falters in her steps, but doesn't pay much else mind. The second man, a little broader but not much shorter, is behind her in a second, reaching out to roughly grab her arm.

Her reaction is instant; she snaps around towards him, bag of groceries falling from her arms. She's trying to think of all the things Danny has taught her (kicks and punches and flips and things she can't do right now, not now, he's too close) but instead just pushes at his arm with her hands as the second man comes up from behind her, reaching for her head and shoulders. But he does notice that she isn't making any noise; even though her hood has fallen back and he can see her mouth moving, nothing is coming out. He grins.]

[God, he's too late. Too late to catch it before it turned into this. Nightwing's out of the shadows and the first man's on the ground in one, two strikes. The other man lets out a wordless shout a second before Dick barrels him into the brick wall, sticks against his throat. The man reaches and clenches wildly, eyes wide. Dick bears down a little more, just hard enough to cut off that whimper he's trying to make. Pushing it much harder would be pushing it too far, but he lets it linger for another second anyway before he lets go. The man sags, clutching his neck and gasping.

Dick stays where he is. Too tense to back off. Too angry to let this slide.]

This is part where you start running.

[...And that's when he realizes, like a two-by-four to the head, that he's forgotten about Nill.]
