idk um. 2am Sunday... of_animalia January 17 2011, 06:34:38 UTC
This had been one of the single most bogus weeks in a long while, at least as far as bizarre happenings went. He'd avoided getting picked on by fate, lucky him, for most of the crazy-days. The shadows had bugged him a little, but at least he wasn't flipping shit about them like some people were.

He'd overslept to get around it, mostly, and crept out after dark to run around, burn his daily calories via leaping rooftops and punching out thugs. Pretty thrilling.

Running into another hero when you're out alone isn't all that uncommon, but running into somebody you know is a little less so. It's not unwelcome. So Dick might notice an oddly-hued leopard following him, at some point. Nothing unusual, right?

Not as unusual as you'd think, given the week Dick's had. But when he sees the leopard he has a hunch, and it's good enough that he makes a quick left and heads up a little higher, where the noise of the traffic down below isn't quite as intrusive. The gap's just wide enough for leopardy-paws to make it, if they want.

It was enough space to make it, so the big cat took a half-second to hunker down before jumping. The rest of the climb is made smoothly. Once he's made it to where Dick's stopped, he peeks down at the cars and late-nighters below. The end of his tail curled back and forth over the ledge. He'd hold the form a little longer.

"Fancy meeting you here."

"Gotta say I'm a little shocked," He's grinning a little while he eyes the street below. Force of habit, even when there's next to nothing to see down there. "You just planning on following me around all night?"

Umm...sometime during the bad guy fighting? a_relative_hero January 17 2011, 07:25:00 UTC
Some heroes have training and know what they're doing. Houston is not one of them. He tries his best though and the powers certainly help. He needed to get out of his apartment and actually do something instead of just playing around with his powers.

Punching thugs seemed like a decent idea so he's been running about the city and leaving several bruised and confused thugs. Heading up to the roof he notices someone in the distance. Assuming the worst, Houston turned on the powers and ran for the figure. Of course when he got onto the same rooftop and saw a costume he actually recognized from his world, Houston turned off his powers and skidded to a halt on the rooftop a few feet away from Nightwing. "Whoa..."

Five thugs down and he's still wound up enough that the sudden noise brings his arm up. The body language is off. The costume is off.

Off enough that he stops the strike before the escrima can connect. He drops it and steps back, looking for some extra space. Fighting to catch his breath.

"...You need something?"

At first, Houston wasn't sure what to say. The young man in the gold and black costume just stared a few seconds before he realized he was doing it and jumped. "Oh umm...I'm Houston," he introduced himself since it seemed like the thing to do. "Sorry about that. I almost attacked you there. Thought you were one of the bad guys..." he trailed off, slightly embarrassed.

"You're Nightwing, right?"

Running into another cape out here isn't really all that uncommon, in this city. Running into one that apparently can get within a few feet without setting off any alarms first is a little bit less so. It's unnerving. Frustrating.

Maybe he's just distracted. Wouldn't be the first time, tonight.

"Uh," he ran a hand up through his hair, trying to get his bearings. Still half waiting for that attack. "Yeah. That's me."

[She's not entirely sure how she's managed to be in the City for so long without, at some point, having managed to catch each of the Bat-people on patrol. She's got a fair number of them down so far, yeah, but not all. Possibly something to do with the sheer number of do-gooders (and the opposite) around here -- or at least that's what she'll tell herself.

Either way, she's currently found that strange black-and-blue outfit that most definitely doesn't exist in her world, and has picked a comfortable perch under the shadow of a jutting gargoyle. A chance to watch the first Robin at work? How could she possibly say no?]

[He feels the eyes on him when he's halfway through wiping out the third piece of human waste. This one pulls a gun and fires off two rounds, wild and panicked before Dick kicks it out of his hand and off the balcony. He's been half-waiting for their buddies to show up, so really it's no surprise.

But he drops the last one and has to pause there, since... really if you were planning on helping out these losers with anything other than hospital bills your window of opportunity was closing fast. Which means it could be something else.

He makes a slow sweep of the area, keeping to the shadows and away from streetlights.]

[They always know, sooner or later. It's pretty impressive, really. So the next step, of course, is to see how close she can creep to him.

She makes use of the shadows, holds back that traitor yellow-flicker of a cape, and lightens her density to erase any potential footfalls. Creep, light hop, silent fall, creep, creep... The overall goal is to drop down upside down from that street sign over his head, but she'll consider any distance gained unnoticed on him a personal victory.]

[There's no real tactical advantage here to staying hidden when he's made it obvious he knows there's someone there, which means whoever's he's up against has either one hell of a surprise waiting or just...

Isn't really a threat at all.

Still, better to be cautious than sorry later. He keeps the escrima sticks out and moves down a little, closer to the street. No better way to end a chase then to stop running.]
