[Pre-dinner stuff, gift exchanges, sitting around talking, arriving early or late? It all goes here!]

Charlie is standing in the living room before everybody has arrived, with Cass, staring at the decorations. You could probably land a plane with the amount of lights she's strung up all over the place, really, but she looks...worried.

"Do you think we need another tree?"

There are already two in the living room, to put it in perspective.

"No," Cass answers immediately, busying herself with taste-testing. Not to mention that one of the trees they already had was incomplete--and it totally wasn't her fault that decorating a tree was so much less interesting than training.

"But it could be a little one. Like sort of a sad-but-adorable Charlie Brown tree right...there."

She waves her hand towards what amounts to the only non-decorated spot along probably the entire wall off the room.

J'onn peers at the food. He is doubtful of much human food, so be brought a huge bowl of Martian-style Threggisdesh. Don't ask, but it's hot and spicy, and he puts it there to share with all.

And samples some food...including the Chocos.

A few of them.

Just a few.

She's heard of this guy, yeah. Read about him in Batman's files, definitely. But hearing about a guy and finding yourself watching his oddly-shaped green head are two entirely different matters. So Carrie's doing a bit of curious staring, and kind of... wondering if she can sneak a few Chocos or if she'd lose a hand for the attempt.

He glanced aside at her. He does his best to not listen, but some thoughts are 'loud'. "You may take a couple, you know. I wont bite." His eyes are warm with humor. Children, even ones older like her. are precious to him, as they were on Mars.

"I'm J'onn. Here."

He held up a smaller plate on which the Chocos resided.

In situations like these, J'onn mostly just tries to relax. Only two of those who call this place and it's people theirs are ones he knows truly, and calls his own. So it is with a certain nervousness that he wanders, politely looking for Barbara or Bruce, and interested in all conversation offered.

Helena had been doing covert surveillance on the guy all night since he was the only one she didn't know. The voice she recognized as belonging to J'onn, but she wanted to see how the other people in the room reacted to him, ones that new him.

Her conclusion was that he was an incredibly nice guy. Which was good, because he had seemed like it when she talked to him earlier. Deciding she should probably introduce herself, she made her way over to him and offered a hand.

"Helena," she said. "We talked earlier."

"Good evening, Helena. It's nice to see you in person. And nice to see that the Batclan in other universes are just as good at surveillance as they are in mine."

He was entirely serious, though humor sparkled in his eyes.

He took her hand and clasped it, and bowed over it, placing a single kiss on the top. His skin, slightly colder than a human's, pressed there a moment, then he rose and nodded. "Are you enjoying yourself?" A certain edge of doubt was in him. Even he did not enjoy too much partying.

About halfway through the party, in as far as one can calculate these things, Jason shows up outside. He looks at one hidden camera, then another, snorts loudly enough to be picked up by the microphones, and sticks his hands in his jacket pockets. It's not his usual jacket, because coming back to this from Africa was a little (though he would never admit it) daunting. So it's an honest to god real winter jacket and he seems to be irritated about that, or, perhaps, he's merely irritated about any number of subjects he would be happy to expound upon should you inquire.

He is also a little tan and has a black eye (left).

Though he doesn't look at the cameras anymore, it's clear he's waiting. Waiting for Dick, perhaps. Or, waiting for the nerve to go inside. Or waiting for Bruce. Jason leans against the wall, then paces, animal restless, kicking occasionally at the snow and then standing very still, staring out at nothing.

About halfway through the party, or at least Helena prays it's halfway over, she steps outside to get a breath of fresh air. Most of the guests are nice but it is way more teenage girls and Batmen than she is used to. Though considering she's used to one teenage girl and no Batmen that isn't saying much.

She spots Jason and recognizes who it is, but she doesn't say anything right away, just gives a nod of her head. Angry-person-with-Batman-issues solidarity and all that.

"Looks like your party was more fun than mine," she finally says, jerking her chin in the direction of his eye.

He must have been expecting someone, because his shoulders stiffen when he hears the door. They're slow to relax even when he recognizes Helena. That same restlessness makes him a curious sort of wary animal tonight, but he has no intention of being rude.

"I walked into a door," Jason says dryly, making fleeting eye contact before studying the snowy streets.

"Must have pretty big doors there in Africa," she said, playing along. Even knowing Jason as little as she did it was probably more like a building falling on him.
