"You're very strong," Fakir said, admiration creeping into his otherwise tender tone. The story's Prince, who would put his own happiness and welfare aside for the sake of others, had been his hero once, and yet it didn't feel strange at all to comfort him this way. Mytho was Siegfried, Siegfried was Mytho. "I know that you can move past this, and with the spell gone I can protect you and care for you until you feel strong again."

"Of course," Fakir said, smiling warmly in return. He leaned heavily against the wall and let Mytho lie against his chest.

How many times had they fallen asleep like that in the mill house, woken over and over by nightmares only to doze off again once Mytho's fears had been quieted? More than once he had found himself reflecting that he enjoyed those few moments before sleep settled over them. Alone in the dark on the same makeshift bed, everything around them so quiet and still. He had liked it very much, at times.

"I love you, my prince," he said after several moments had passed in silence. The statement was neither plaintive nor seeking.

Fakir's smile broadened, and he let his chin rest on Mytho's shoulder. The events of the past week had made the fact painfully clear, but to hear the words filled him with a special sort of elation. He let himself slide down the wall to lie on his side, pulling Mytho with him.

He almost felt tired, now. Like he had been released from a long day of practice and could finally rest a while.

"She already has," Fakir said. Really, when did Duck hold a grudge? "I saw her tonight, and she isn't angry. She was the one who removed the spell."

"She's a difficult person to hurt, at least for long," Fakir said. He was fairly certain that Duck wouldn't be listening to him praise her from outside the door. "She has a strong heart, like you do. And I think she understands that you were upset when you said those things."

Fakir nodded thoughtfully and closed his eyes. "Even for people like me, love is such an enormous part of them," he said. "I can't imagine what it must have been like to be without it."

A faint shudder ran through Fakir's body, and he held more tightly to Mytho. "And you don't have to be. With the spell broken, you can be the prince who fights and the prince who loves. And who hurts, and sometimes falls."

Fakir blinked, taken aback by the request, then smiled. "Of course," he said as he sat up briefly to retrieve a pillow from the head of the bed. "I'll call you whatever you like. You can be whomever you feel right being."
