Alex knocked on the door twice, dressed awfully casually in shades, sandals and a loud shirt thrown over a sleeveless white shirt. They were going to the zoo. One cheeseburger dinner wasn't enough, he was going to take her out to the zoo for some more quality uncle-niece bonding time.

He was taking a gamble, not having fixed this with her beforehand, but something told him that she wouldn't be out this early in the day. Probably still sleeping, he thought.

If she hadn't sensed who it was behind the door, she would have would have kicked them across the hall. She was still considering it, what was he doing here?

Crossing to the door, she opened it a crack and peered out.

"Are you trying to blind someone with that shirt?"

Having heard that far too many times in his months in the City, Alex shrugged it off like water down a duck's back. "Is it working?

Then for good measure he put his foot in the crack that she'd just opened. "And good, you're awake. I'm taking you on a day out."

Rubbing the last of the sleep out of her eyes, she started to open the door wider, but stopped when what he said actually sank in.
