Zuko had been in a bad mood all day, and avoiding most of those he knew besides. Between the electronics suddenly going ballistic (and he not being sure when they might do it again, he already didn't trust the things) and the Joker turning up again...

However, passing by a bakery, he stopped and looked into the window, and after a moment stepped inside, searching his pockets for money and wondering what he was going to do when what he had ran out.

Maybe there was a tea shop he could work at, or something. Zuko glanced around the inside of the shop, tense and cranky and more than a little conspicuous.

Hurriedly putting away her book and half-finished scone, Rue looked up at the stranger, taking in his appearance while also trying to appear as if she wasn't staring. She knew people with scars didn't appreciate that.

"May I help you?" she asked, as politely as the heat and her mood would allow.

He glanced up, and wandered over to the counter to look at his options. Perhaps this wasn't a good idea. Maybe food here was weird too. He certainly hasn't seen anything even so basic as fire flakes.

"Yeah, maybe," he said, finally, attempting politeness and managing, if awkwardly. "What's - what's good, here? Nothing looks familiar."

Rue stared at him for a moment. How could nothing be familiar, when they only served the most basic things? Certainly there were people here from other worlds, but it seemed to her that a world without normal sweets was very strange.

"Ah, the croissants are quite good, in my opinion. And there's a chocolate cake we have today that's just wonderful."

She neglected to mention that she knew this because she had secretly sampled some earlier.

Dear Fran's Winamp: STOP PLAYING THE KARIN OP WHEN I POST AS THIS GUY answer2darkness August 5 2010, 02:37:39 UTC
Whether Qui-Gon had intended for it to happen or not, he had become a regular bystander at Obi-Wan's studio, alternating between assistance and simple observation for a couple hours every other day. It had simply become a part of his routine in this city.

Today, though, was the first time he'd bothered to investigate the bakery on the first floor, and he was pleasantly surprised to see Rue stationed behind the counter. Wolfgang was nowhere in sight, though that was probably for the best. He said nothing as he stepped inside.

Rue said nothing as well, only giving him a small smile as she stowed her book away. For some reason, she thought she might be especially embarrassed if this man caught her reading on the job.

"I wasn't aware that you worked here," the man said as he strode to the counter. He had been told that Obi-Wan's apprentice worked in this shop, but hadn't expected to see Rue here as well. "What are you reading today?"

"Just a book about ballet," she said vaguely. Oh, she hated when people asked her that. It always made her feel strangely judged.
