She took that step back, careful not to trip over the skirts of her gown - sure, the back was all pinned up now so she could manuever around easier, but it was still a lot of fabric.

Then, the little reminder over with, he swept her fully into the song, finally keeping the beat properly, and waltzing with something that might have resembled grace. Good thing that large skirt of hers hid some of his mistakes.

Soon the giggles fell to the side, and she found herself completely caught up in the dance, in him, and in the entire experience. Of all the times she'd read that she should feel like some sort of princess at her wedding, she had never once thought she'd experience that.
Now she did.
But as she got more comfortable in the motions, she actually spoke up. Not that anyone else would hear her but him anyway.
"You've improved."

He was a little stiff still, but that was mainly nerves. Besides, he wanted this to be that princess moment for her, and also be her charming prince.
"I love you. Mrs. Rimmer."

She lifted herself up just enough to kiss him, actually being completely uncaring about how anyone would feel about any public displays of affection between them. They knew what they were getting into when they came to a wedding, they had no-one to blame but themselves.
"I love you too, Arnold."

He kissed her back, grinning like an idiot, as the song wove itself around them. And he would never, ever get tired of calling her by her new full name. He'd probably be doing it for months to come.
"We made it," he whispered against her lips as the kiss parted.

"We made it." she whispered back, then just... giggled again.
"I didn't particular doubt it would happen... but it's nice to be on the other side of that particular bump."

So this is love, mm-mm, so this is love....
"It's official now. I'm your husband. I like that word."
He held up his left hand, up off her waist, and looked at his new wedding band, still so alien and foreign on his finger.
"Wow."
Reply
"Enjoy the novelty of the term while you can, Arnold. Soon you'll be sitting with the other married men, complaining that I nag at you, or do ridiculous things with the home decor."

Then he leaned in and kissed her again, just as the song came to an end. Completely serendipitous on his part; he didn't plan that at all.

This really had been the perfect choice, the correct choice. She'd never felt this happy before, not to her recollection, which spoke volumes about how free she was letting herself be tonight.
She wasn't even afraid of someone like her father destroying it.

This was the right choice, completely and unreservedly. And he was determined, totally determined not to follow in the twisted and abusive footsteps of his parents. He would love her until the heat death of the multiverse, and never allow their marriage to spiral into what his parents had endured.
"Love you..."

Even if the song was over, she didn't immediately make a move to leave the dance floor. In fact she just stood there in silence with him, forehead now resting up against his. The next song began, and she swayed to the side, to signal she wanted another dance.
Just to remain in the fairytale for a little while longer...

He lingered on the edges of her, trying to think of things to do and say. As one song wound down and another began to pick up, he finally reached over to tap her on the shoulder, trying to seem playful about it. "Song's worth of your time?"
Reply
With a slight smile, she nodded in response.
