I AM SORRY THIS IS SO LATE chrysophilist May 25 2010, 10:44:23 UTC
The car had definitely been a good idea--there was no way Rikku would have made it to the monument in one day if she hadn't "borrowed" it. Her Berserker dress sphere could run pretty fast, there was no denying that, but she could only use it for an hour, which would have been a problem; it took her more than a couple hours to get to D.C. by car, after all, and that was at a steady 150 MPH. She didn't think she could run that fast.

She started driving within the speed limit once she got into the city limits. No need to draw attention to herself now, after all. Yellow shades slid over her eyes, she glanced around, following the directions on the GPS. Eventually she made it there, and, after finding a parking spot (which was nearly impossible), she headed up the steps ( ... )

The Warrior had always given her a certain feeling of absolute power, as if she could do anything so long as she had that sword in her hands. Now was no different; it was a cold, calculating dress sphere, and even Rikku had a hard time keeping to her peppy self sometimes while using it. And for the moment, she let herself give in to the sphere's emotions, letting its memories direct her blade.

The blonde crouched a bit, watching the girl come forward with the guitar. Such an impractical weapon, that was. With a quick move, she dodged to the left, the instrument catching her on the foot, though it wasn't enough to knock her off balance. "You could use one of your own," she shot back cockily, starting to circle like a predator.

Ophelia did not like this change that had come over the girl. Frankly, this seemed like it might actually be dangerous now. And her guitar wasn't really doing all that much.

"Fine," she released the grip on her guitar and it dropped towards the ground only to fade back into the black ooze and rejoin the crowd. "If we're going to play for keeps, I guess I can't argue."

She lsahed her hand out, fingers pointed, and a shard of the black cloud lanced up away from her feet in a slashing arc straight at the blonde. It's quite sharp.

The smirk never left Rikku's face, not even as she watched the guitar disappear in what was only the weirdest way possible. As the Warrior, it was pretty much impossible for her to be afraid of anything; fear wasn't in her vocabulary in this dress sphere, and she liked it.

Rikku watched the shadow forming, saw it coming her way, and raised her sword to block; she knew that it was some kind of magic, and that her sword might not do much against it, but it was still a blade, and that was all that really mattered.

I am SO sorry this took so long. blacktearqueen June 2 2010, 16:13:44 UTC
The black blade was stopped by the sword, there was even a faint metallic 'ting' to the clash, though the substance hadn't changed significantly. Ophelia was already moving though, swinging her other hand outward, and the first blade faded back into nothing as a second arched out from around her in a more downward arc towards the other woman. She kept walking forward during the attack, closing the space between them.

"If you had just left we wouldn't be having this problem," she said with a sigh.

"I don't run away," she shot back cockily, moving to parry the blow again. Well, okay, so she didn't run away when she was the Warrior. As the thief, and some other dress spheres, sure, of course she did. Not all her outfits gave her the same strength as this one; in fact, only one or two others did, and Shiva knew she couldn't rely on just them. A tactical retreat was good sometimes.

Just not right now.

Ophelia sighed. "Sometimes running away is the smart thing to do, you know." She stepped forward and lashed her arm out again and another wave of black tears formed into a blade and swung at the other. They were strong swings, though there was nothing fancy about them. Ophelia's training, before she'd become the Queen of Black Tears, had been in fighting with daggers and short-swords, which the tears were anything but.

The attacks were easy to see a mile away; they weren't very skillful, even if they did make her mentally wince whenever she blocked one. They were good, solid strikes, if low-class. Thinking about that, Rikku decided that it was time to end this; she had wasted enough time already. She dodged the blow, but not far enough; it swiped across her left arm, giving a nasty cut from shoulder to elbow. But the blonde ignored it, running forward and swinging her sword back, turning it so the flat of the blade would hit. Let's see how this chick did with close combat.

The moment she managed to hit the girl Ophelia grinned...and then it faded into a hiss as the flat of Rikku's sword slammed into her arm and side, and the blue-skinned woman was knocked aside, sliding to a stop a few feet away, the black cloud boiling around her.

"Okay, this is getting old."

She lunged forward, slashing out at the girl again, a sideways hit this time.

"No kidding," she agreed with a savage grin. She still wasn't feeling the hit on her arm, thanks to adrenaline, but she knew that if she didn't end this quickly there'd be more than just a catfight going on. She parried the blow with her sword and then her leg shot out, aiming a kick at the other woman's leg, trying to knock her off balance.
