I AM SORRY THIS IS SO LATE chrysophilist May 25 2010, 10:44:23 UTC
The car had definitely been a good idea--there was no way Rikku would have made it to the monument in one day if she hadn't "borrowed" it. Her Berserker dress sphere could run pretty fast, there was no denying that, but she could only use it for an hour, which would have been a problem; it took her more than a couple hours to get to D.C. by car, after all, and that was at a steady 150 MPH. She didn't think she could run that fast.

She started driving within the speed limit once she got into the city limits. No need to draw attention to herself now, after all. Yellow shades slid over her eyes, she glanced around, following the directions on the GPS. Eventually she made it there, and, after finding a parking spot (which was nearly impossible), she headed up the steps.

She'd never seen a monument like this before; granted, there weren't many that were still completely intact in Spira, but none of them were this... big. A man on his throne, huh? She wondered exactly what he'd done to deserve a statue like this in his honor. Well, she'd make sure to find out once she got back to the City. But for now, it was time to find that disk.

No worries. blacktearqueen May 25 2010, 14:18:43 UTC
Ophelia was currently up near that statue, hand pressed into the side of the chair as she peered around the back, looking for some trace of this 'disc' they needed to find. She knew, in general terms, what she was looking for...even if she had no real experience with anything fancier than her phone, technology-wise.

Luckily the place was mostly empty...at least until she heard footsteps behind her and turned to see a...blonde, braided woman approaching? Hmm. She'd seen the way the humans here dressed, in general. It was possible this girl was a local, but Ophelia wouldn't have bet money on it. Not with her luck.

She turned to face her, without moving away from the statue, and remained in her 'normal' guise for now. "Sorry, the monuments closed. For...cleaning," yeah, that might work, right? Probably not.

Rikku had spotted the dark-haired woman before she'd been noticed and, even though she wasn't a great actress, managed to adopt a wide-eyed, pouting expression. She knew she might find someone else there, and would've preferred to wait until night fell, but she'd known there was no time. This was a test of speed, and Yevon be damned if she fell behind.

"No way!" she almost whined. "I've been looking all around for this place, y'know?" She sighed deeply, and cast a glance up at the statue. She placed one hand on her hip, her fingers dangling just above her pouch of tricks. Just in case.

"I just wanna take a little look before I have to leave again, 'kay?" This probably would have been working better if she was dealing with a man, but oh well. Some things just weren't changeable.

Hmm. Okay, so this was going to be more difficult than she had thought. She took a step away from the statue, crossing her arms under the skull on the chest of her tank top and shaking her head.

"No, sorry. You're going to have to leave right now. Before the...cleaning crew people get here." She hoped she sounded official-like. At least she'd looked up enough about this society so far to know what a cleaning crew was, that was a plus.

"You can come back in a couple hours when they're done." She offered. Maybe that was enough bait.

Alright, it was pretty obvious that she wasn't going to get this other woman out of her, and so she just sighed heavily, and ambled towards the base of the statue. "Just a look," she repeated, pushing her yellow shades off her nose with the hand that wasn't close to her pouch.

"He's pretty big, yeah?" She laid one hand on the cool stone, running her yellow-polished fingers over it inconspicuously. Not looking for a groove or notch or anything, nope. "Wonder what he did to deserve this."

Ophelia narrowed her eyes as the woman pointedly ignored what she had said. Of course. She sighed, closing the distance between them, and pointing one finger at the exit to the monument.

"Yes, it's huge. You still need to leave now." She was getting fairly close to just picking the woman up and chucking her out, but she figured she'd try to be civilized first. "Or I will have to remove you." She added. Okay...partly civilized.

The blonde girl blinked slowly, tilting her head at the other woman. Well, this was not where she'd wanted it to go. She was kind of getting a bad vibe from this girl anyway, and that threat of violence, well. It didn't make her feel any less suspicious.

"I don't think you wanna do that," she said lightly, casually walking around the figure, fingers still dragging across it. "We girls gotta stick together, and I don't want either of us to get in trouble because you tried to hurt me."

Ophelia actually smirked, taking a step back so she could see the girl when she emerged from the other side of the statue. "Getting in trouble is not something I'm worried about, girl. But you should be."

Her fingers drummed lightly on her hip as she spoke, and her irritation was showing plainly on her face despite her smirk. In fact, it might even be showing up in other ways...the occasional flit of a black tendril slipping out of her clothes before it righted itself. Very quickly, a split second sort of thing.

The dark wisps were not missed by Rikku, though she refrained from mentioning them; she was positive now that this girl didn't work in the memorial, and had decided that she was probably here for the same reason as herself. This wasn't good news; in fact, it was pretty bad. Rikku had wanted an in-and-out mission, and now it seemed as if she'd have to take things in a different direction.

"I have a name, y'know," she said hotly, that hand never leaving her hip. She didn't like it when people called her "girl" or "girly" or anything like that. That wasn't who she was--at least, not anymore. "And trouble's never been a problem for me. But I think it might be, for you."

"I'm sure you do, but I don't know it and I don't really care," Ophelia let out an irritated sigh. "And I'm not feeling all that threatened by a tiny blonde girl, for the record.

"Look, five seconds and I'm throwing you out of here." Ophelia was being generous, really...mostly she was trying to avoid starting a fight that would attract attention. She held up a pale hand, counting off on her fingers.

"Five...four..."

There were only a few things in the world that really bothered Rikku, and this woman had managed to hit on three or four of them in the span of about five minutes. Besides the name-thing, being underestimated because of her stature was something she took advantage of, yes, but it still irked her that people assumed little girls couldn't fight. Also, that because of her hair color she was some kind of ditz. She liked having fun and being cute, yes, but that didn't mean she was an idiot.

So she didn't wait for the girl to finish her stupid counting game, because being treated like a little kid was definitely not okay in her book.

She sprang forward, arm stretched back for a punch to the girl's abdomen, her foot coming around at the same time to knock her off her feet. Hand-to-hand wasn't Rikku's forte, but that didn't mean she was completely useless with it.

Ophelia had expected something, and yet she hadn't expected the smaller woman to be so fast. She took the hit to the stomach and the kick, sliding several feet away...but didn't seem anything more than annoyed by it. As she rose to her feet, the black cloud swirled back out of her, and her skin lost its pale (if healthy) looking color, returning to its usual faint blue. And she smirked. In the air around her some music began to play.

"That was stupid." She said as she hauled herself to her feet and charged forward. The black cloud gathered itself up into a flat fist above her head and as she leveling a punch at Rikku chest, so did it.

This... was not good. She had seen all kinds of fiends and people and things, but this was definitely something new. New and bad. She didn't like it when those two things were mixed together, because all it spelled was T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

The blonde knew she could dodge one hit, but not both; so she decided to go for the physical fist. It seemed like it was less dangerous--and definitely less unknown. She swung herself to one side, she took the girl's hit in the shoulder, grimacing. Immediately she stretched out her yellow-polished fingers, grabbing at the darker woman's arm, aiming to flip her over and gain a bit of ground and time.

Ophelia hissed when the big fist missed...while she wasn't weak, she wasn't exactly a powerhouse either. Most of her attack power came from the tears. And then she made a startled noise of surprise when she was grabbed and flipped...though her arc through the air slowed as a pair of oily black wings burst out of her back, letting her glide to a stop a good ten feet away or so.

She spun around as they wings disappeared back into the tear pool, and then she held out a hand and the shadows swirled around it to reveal...an electric guitar? She twirled it twice in her hand and then spun it around so she was gripping it by the neck. She didn't want to kill the blonde girl. She didn't particularly like killing women, honestly.

But the guitar certainly would make a nice non-lethal club.

That smirk of hers was back as she shot forward, closing the distance between them...she was more gliding along the ground than walking...and swinging the guitar at Rikku's side.

Alright, that was totally unexpected. Rikku had never used an actual instrument as a weapon before--her voice, yes, but not anything like a guitar. She knew she couldn't dodge in time, and so she went for Option B, which, while not the best in the world, would probably at least serve her better at the moment.

Eyes closing, a brief flash of light engulfed her for a split second; when it disappeared, she was in her Warrior dress sphere, lifting her sword to try and parry the blow.

Ophelia was feeling rather triumphant until the girls clothing shifted and her guitar was knocked back by that...sword? Well, someone else had some tricks too.

She took a step or two back, glancing at her guitar. As weapons went it wasn't that great, especially not against a bladed weapon. Two of the strings had been cut just by being blocked, in fact.

"Neat trick," she said, stepping forward in a low arc to try and sweep the girls legs with the guitar.
