At some point during the day, Hiei decided to check up on his friends. Yusuke at work, Yukina at school, Kurama in his apartment, and Kuwabara...

...out on the town. Interesting. Hiei followed him at a small distance, keeping to the shadows.

Of course, Kuwabara was unlikely to miss Hiei's blaring spirit presence.

Kuwabara stopped where he was walking, frowning just slightly. He shifted his bags in his hands, sighed, and knew what was coming. He turned sharply around, weaved through a few people giving him funny looks, and stopped a few paces short of a nice, shadowy alleyway. "I know you're here. You could just act like a normal person and not follow me around."

Hiei let a beat pass before he stepped out of the shadows, stopping to face Kuwabara with his chin tilted up, arrogant as always.

"What's normal?" he challenged casually.

"Not stalking people is normal, that's what." He frowned, glancing away before fixing an agitated gaze on the little demon. "What d'you want?" Because he somehow fully expected his could simply hand over something, like Hiei actually had a reason to follow him around, and the whole meeting would be done.

SOMETIME AFTER HIEI'S STALKERY... spiritgun_punk May 21 2010, 02:57:06 UTC
Yusuke finished up at the precinct, then climbed up onto Puu's back to fly around the City. This was more of a way to figure out the lay of the land than anything else, and if he happened to see anyone interesting, it was always fun to swoop down and say hello. He was still toying with the idea of trying out the fast rope thing Jack Bauer had demonstrated with Puu, but he hadn't figured out quite how to make it work without breaking his neck, so that was a no go.

And oh hey, Kuwabara on the sidewalk. Yusuke grinned and Puu shifted into a dive. Yusuke jumped off before Puu landed, fully intending to tackle Kuwabara because you know, that's just how he says hello to people.

Kuwabara knew, like a jab to the back of the brain, that something was coming! He looked up just in time to see the last of Urameshi's decent, and he only got out, "Oh no you fuckin' do--" before he collapsed under the weight of his former schoolmate's impact.

He dropped what he was carrying and immediately tried to right himself. It wasn't too difficult to move, given his advantage in bulk, but to hold Yusuke down enough to give him what-for... That was another task in itself. "What's the big idea?! I'm gonna thump you so hard you can't see, Urameshi!"

Yusuke wriggled away, trying to get back on his feet before Kuwabara pinned him. He was laughing, of course. "You shoulda seen the look on your face!" He crowed, as Puu flapped around overhead. It'd been a while since he and Kuwabara had fought. Yusuke'd been caught up in work at the precinct and tracking Riful down, and Kuwabara had been off...doing Kuwabara type things. Yusuke had no idea what that entailed, but apparently it kept him busy.

This was really Yusuke's way of saying, "Hey, haven't seen you in a while. We should catch up." Only it involved a lot more fists and yelling than the average person's version.

"No, no, no! You get back here!" Kuwabara was grabbing for Yusuke's ankles, content to drag him down the sidewalk if necessary. "You deserve a beating, you little runt!"

For good measure, he chucked a can of cat-food at his assailant's head.

Tyki found it rather amusing to walk to streets at night. So few people made it their business to be out in the open if one stayed out long enough, and the resulting peace and quiet was a silent testament to how fearful the city had become after these most recent declarations of "war".

He enjoyed it -- both the atmosphere and the solitude. It reminded him of late nights spent smuggling goods into Portugal, and early mornings spent roughing it with the other dock-hands and sailors, all quiet and still until the heat crept up. Perhaps tonight would be just as entertaining.

Kuwabara wasn't the sort to give in or even recognize that fear. A lack of people at night would have only indicated that people were sleeping. They had jobs and school to get up for, after all. There was, at present, no reason to be afraid of a lamp-lit street.

There were things here and there, though, that gave off funny vibes. Most people couldn't feel that kind of thing, however.

This guy, for example... Kuwabara stopped short of crossing the man's path and knew that there was something familiar about him, and maybe something off, something eerie or crooked. Either way... He'd spoken to him, hadn't he? Maybe.

"Hey." He said shortly, with a slight forcefulness in it. Kind of like saying hello and asking what the guy was doing around here, all at once.

He froze mid-stride, chuckled to himself, and then turned to face the boy. Though couldn't quite place his face -- but, then again, when could he ever? -- the voice was unique enough that a flash of recognition darted across his face, which broke out into a small smile.

He was being rather forward for someone who wanted to play the hero, wasn't he? Tyki tipped his hat toward him, then replied: "Good evening," in a cheerful, disarming tone.

Yep. Totally creepy.

Aside from that, he had talked to the guy before. He just needed to place the conversation... Oh, yeah! The guy with all the questions and stupid answers! At least, that's who he thought it was, but he could have been wrong, especially considering the host of questions and answers on the Network. He couldn't remember his name for the life of him, either, even though he was sure they'd made introductions, at some point. Oh well.

The cheerful tone didn't quell the look of suspicion that Kuwabara cast on the other man. "What're you, taking a walk?"

Suzi had decided to stop by Agatha's cafe and the art store before heading into work that day. She took a deep breath, glad that the air was warm and that it had the slight smell of pollen in it.

Walking with her coffee (the ice version!), she took her time along the sidewalk, looking through various windows on her way to an art store.

Kuwabara had taken his groceries back to his little apartment and put them all away, and wandered away again with his hands in his pockets. There was time to kill before people would likely be causing trouble, but he didn't feel like doing anything like, say, reading or finishing his school-work. He could be a little lax without his sister around, right? Right!

He wasn't much of a shopper, but the displays in windows were nice enough! He also found that it was a lot easier to find clothes that fit him, around here. Being six-something and bulky in Japan was different from the same in America! Aside from that, he didn't mind the idea of getting anything that might make Yukina's life easier, or something that she might just like, never mind its usefulness.

He almost bumped into her, looking around, and stopped just short. Looking plenty apologetic, he bowed just slightly and apologized in his native language before switching to English. "Sorry about that!"

Suzi was telling herself that she didn't really need another panda bag when she felt someone bump into her. Turning she heard a voice in another language before hearing a polite and apologetic voice say "Sorry about that!"

Suzi raised a hand to dismiss the accident. "No, it's not a problem. I was daydreaming and should probably get off the sidewalk."

Suzi looked more closely at who had run into her. He looked familiar. "Are you an imPort?"

"Huh?" He was momentarily surprised at the question, but nodded after that brief pause and answered easily enough. "Yeah. I am."

He figured that she must be, too, and then he felt bad. He couldn't remember her immediately, or even remember if he'd talked to her. After another moment, he decided to just... Pose a friendly (if already assumable) question. "You are too, right?"

It seemed like the same routine as always; everyone on the street looked just as bored and out of it, at least to Juudai. He made his way down the side of another nameless street, during the period that was close-to-but-not-quite-sunset, when the air had been thoroughly warmed by the sun and a sense of surreal laziness hovered all around ( ... )

Kuwabara, perhaps as if on cue, came around the corner at a wandering, casual pace. The scene, a mugging, was easy to spot from there. He stopped a short distance away and regarded it seriously for a moment before he slowly turned up a smirk. "Oi. What are you doing there, huh?"

He looked up in an exaggerated gesture, over the tall buildings to where the orange sunlight could be easily seem. "A bit early, huh? You're bold." He put his foot down, stepped closer. "Actually... I think you're probably pretty stupid." To that he grinned, reaching up to scratch his head and shrugging his shoulders slightly to show off that thuggish demeanor he'd carried for ages, a punk-kid gang leader. "It's daylight, man! Tell you what--"

He held up his right hand, where the palm might have been glowing if you squinted. A clench of his fist, and his sword of spiritual energy sprang into being. "I have perfect control of this thing. One bad move, and I can impale you! It doesn't matter if that kid's in the way, either! I can go around him." All of this ( ... )

"Problem is, he doesn't value his life," Juudai replied, slightly strained, from the wall, "or else he wouldn't be trying."

Without warning and seemingly out of nowhere, something moved -- not from Juudai's end, but from someone else's, a third entity entirely. Yubel grabbed the knife in the guy's shaking hand -- by the metal blade, even, and without a drop of blood spilled from her rough hands -- and promptly removed his control of it, shoving him back towards the alley he'd come from and cracking her claws in preparation to tear him apart...

"Don't kill him, jeez," Juudai griped, directed at both Yubel and the guy who'd apparently turned the corner at just the right time, holding a glowing sword -- that was a new one. "I mean, that's what he wants. So ( ... )

Wow. That was... Weird. Things here just kept getting weirder. He automatically tried to equate the new appearance, the woman who grabbed the knife, with a demon, but she didn't feel like one.

At being addressed again, he broke out of his thoughts and pointless staring at the scene and, taking a moment to process what he'd been asked, he shook his head. Releasing his fist, the reiken faded out of existence. "I was just bluffing. Two against one, though... A normal guy like that? It's a bit much. Besides..." He began to move forward, maybe intending to get the creature (or whatever it was) away from the would-be mugger. "This guy obviously needs help."
