CANTO VI | VOICE

[There are the sounds of a scuffle the moment the feed begins---a man's frightened yelp, followed by the sound of something being sliced (but it sounds like it's just fabric being torn) and Beatrice's typical menacing chuckling.  Is she up to trouble again? Bullying innocent civvies for little, if any, sort of reason? It's really anyone's guess, ( Read more... )

Because I prefer my own thoughts to everyone else's.

Is that not boring, however? Imagination is certainly boundless, yes, but only to a certain degree, after all.

Meeting new and interesting people, are we Beatrice?

One of my old subordinates from my own world did in fact possess power like what you describe. It was a truly terrifying weapon, and she took absolutely gleeful pleasure in wielding it without mercy. After all, at its core it is a way of gaining knowledge, and we know what they say about that power!

All the time, dear Major!

[And here comes the laughter.]

Indeed---mightier than the sword! Still, I must say, I'm sure it is troublesome, at times. Not only are most regular humans quite noisy in terms of thought process, but most of them also give thought to such dull things, wouldn't you say?

Oh, I can hardly imagine how troublesome, to wallow within an ordinary human's petty desires. Fortunately, my departed comrade did not have to deal with that particular issue. It is a good thing, too- she would never have had the patience for it! [He snickers] No, her power was more like a battering ram, that smashes through a fortress' defences to allow its most valuable parts to be pillaged and ravaged before it withdraws, leaving that fortress of the mind in flaming ruins behind it.

Ah...

[Color Beatrice impressed. The ability to completely render a person's mind into virtual mush? Even she would cower at an ability like that. After all, without a will, a living being has no use!]

...Like a more elegant form of lobotomy---without the barbaric procedures and tools! The mere thought of seeing the end result of such an ability sends pleasant shivers down my spine! Dear Major, your former allies were quite spectacular, indeed---why, I'd say they're more like demons!
