Cavil. Are you busy?

To tell you the truth, I was hoping we still were. But all's been quiet on the front. If that's the phrase I'm after.

Peter would normally skim over the chain of encrypted messages as he skims over every other encrypted posting, but there's something odd about this set. It's like the poster of half the messages -- one half of the conversation -- didn't set the encryption properly. There's mangled coding visible, and on a hunch, he takes a closer look. The poster's user id is embedded in the code, and it's ...

Norman Osborn. Writing encrypted messages -- a lot of encrypted messages -- to another party. Sloppily enough that even Peter's unevenly honed hacking skills can break through.

He stops, and looks around his spartan MAC apartment suspiciously. Spider- sense not tingling ... "But this is Norman Osborn we're talking about," he says aloud. "The Parker Luck's never this good ( ... )

"My god!" he breathes. He pulls a blank flash drive out of the jumble on his desk, plugs it in, copies the messages and all their raw and decoded metadata. Opens a text file, types hastily: his suspicions that Norman was responsible for a recent attack on a teenager with spider powers, and information recently passed onto him by a third party. Checks his spelling -- this needs to look coherent and professional -- and dumps that file on the drive as well. The drive gets an adhesive label:

ATTN: CO-COMMISH ELISA MAZA
FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN
!!! URGENT !!!

He disconnects it properly instead of just yanking it out of the slot as he normally does. He strips in slow, deliberate motions, then stashes the drive in his utility belt. Another few moments to put his mask and gloves on and check his webbing, and he’s out the window, swinging towards Avengers Tower.
