That is because your taste is impeccable.

I was going to post most of this in reply to your reaction post (so much love!) until I realised I'd have no steam left for this. Although I think that, excepting my ramblings about Tamara, we said more or less the same things.

Like I said, impeccable taste.

I feel a little bad talking about this, because I haven't seen the episode and I figure I should see the episode before I form an opinion, you know? BUT OMG, I AGREE SO MUCH. Like, down to the the writers didn't even try to get us attached to Gwen and the only reason I did is because I take the time to develop characterization and headcanon for minor, female characters. And I'm kinda really pissed off that Rufus died, THIS IS WHY WE HAD A PRAYER CIRCLE FOR YOU. And yeah, I love Tamara so much and and for a while, I was cranky because they gave her an obvious set up to come back, but then she didn't and now I'm glad because she'll probably get killed off if she does :///// *ships Jo/Rufus to make myself feel better ( ... )

I still wish that the Gwen/Sam prompt from the latest round of blindfold had been filled (basically, adrenaline-fueled sex that she feels guilty about, because ack, he's family [even if they're probably not any closer than second cousins], but souless!Sam couldn't care less). But that probably has more to do with Sam than Gwen ^^*

Gwen could have been awesome and will always be so in my head. But... Also, Jo/Rufus is hitting my intergenerational squick, but tell me why they're awesome! You don't *have* to, but I'm curious as to the appeal.

I guess it could be femmeslashy? The Tamara/Cassie. But in my head it's kind of gen. WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT, THOUGH. I will not turn down good femmeslash plot bunnies :D

No, I get your intergenerational squick! I have one too for the most part, but Jo is like my bicycle and I'm realizing I ship her with almost everyone (except Dean. Sorry, Dean). But Jo/Rufus works for me because of their scenes in Good God, Y'all, because they were working together and hunting and I don't know if they've hunted together beforehand or if that was their first time, but I like their vibe, how Jo was less experienced than Rufus, but not treated like a child because of it. They had a good, respectful vibe between them and I see them as getting along in this quiet sorta of way? Like I have vague pictures of them sitting across from each other in a diner in comfortable silence because neither one of them feel the need to say anything (Jo and Rufus just aren't talkative people). And now I have ideas of Jo and Rufus hanging out together after that episode and going hunting together and connecting because Jo doesn't really have any other people to talk to besides her mom (and I always want more people for Jo to hunt with) and ( ... )

My only glitch with this is that I read Jo as a bit chatty, rather than quiet, but to the rest of it? YES. You're so right about the power dynamic being surprisingly equal (I think that it's at the root of my squick too - I love power struggles in my fic, but I have a really hard time when one character maintains the advantage in all aspects of the relationship, however you define that word).

Basically, tangent aside, I hope you write Jo/Rufus one day! I think that I would love to read the fuck out of it.

IT WOULD BE WRONG OF ME TO DISCOURAGE FEMMESLASH GOGGLES, SO CARRY ON. My writing projects invariably come out gen, though! I have a terrible time writing romantic and sexual dynamics.

Yeah, I agree. The casual way they killed off Gwen really bothered me. I love the show, but it forces me to compartmentalize to sustain the love.

And yeah, Crowley and Balthazar? I like them fine, but I don't really get the squee.

I think that maybe my irritation with Balthazar's popularity has more to do with the way fandom never latches on to the female characters (or the characters of colour, if memory serves) in the same way.

I don't know! But congratulations on what I hear was a great interview :D

This fandom doesn't seem to, you're right. Any new male is potential slash material, and women are just in the way. Or something. As for characters of color - I don't even know.

Thanks for the congrats, though! I feel pretty good about it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

i like crowley but i think that's partly because i like mark sheppard. altho he does seem to play the same kinds of characters in every show he's in, and just once i'd like to see him play a good guy. but i'm not too upset he's dead - i hated his storyline - and i'm just not interested in balthazar either. (but i'm not interested in the civil war in heaven. i'm just done with heaven and hell and angels, period.)

i was pissed they killed rufus off but not surprised. but he didn't have to die. and also, i liked him.

at least we have sam's earnestface and sam&dean being, you know, sam&dean, but everything else is pretty frustrating.

Mark Sheppard really has his type, doesn't he? I'm curious to see what kind of character he'll be playing on Doctor Who.

I'm actually interested in heavenly politics, for all that (maybe because) we only ever get a taste of it. What happened to Uriel's Lucifer-loving faction, for example?

I'm so relieved that Sam&Dean are being Sam&Dean again. While I can't deny that I really indecently enjoyed soulless!Sam, I'm glad that the show finally (finally) has its heart back.
