December 09 - Talk about a femslash pairing(s) that you ship in SPN and why you ship it! - [profile] applegeuse
SO.
To be clear, I shipped every f/f pairing I could get my hands on and I few I couldn't. (Forever mourning the lack of Cassie fanworks. FOREVER.)
In the era I was active, Ruby/Anna was the big thing! So I devoured a lot of really, really great Ruby/Anna. This was the fandom that made me fall in love with fanmixes, because
familiardevil and
flutterfingers were/are magical at it, okay? (It was actually a gen Bela mix by the former that got me hooked on mixes and through that, into pre-recorded music in general. FOREVER. GRATEFUL.) My first podfic was a timey-wimey Ruby/Anna piece. I'm not sure if I was really passionate about the dynamic between these two so much as it was prevalent, easy to find, and that meant there was a critical mass of great works to sustain my interest.
I liked Jo/Ruby for the confrontation edge between them, although the pairing got a little one note a lot fast for me. Ellen/Mary grew into a favourite for the badass-mothers edge to it; I loved stories where the two were lovers and co-parents to the Winchester-Harvelle brood.
My favourite, favourite ship, though, the one I was always digging around for more fanworks for, was Jo/Bela.
Jo/Bela worked for me on SO MANY LEVELS, although in retrospect, I think a lot of the draw had a lot to do with the constant flow of power dynamics between them. Jo can be righteously moral; Bela's idea of morality is, well, what it is. There's a constant conflict and tension between them, even when they're in love, and that works for me so hard. I think I also really loved that lot of the stories had a caper-like feel, which is always a fun genre to dabble in, and the way they were constantly on opposite sides of the hunting fence meant communication wasn't exactly smooth... which tends to make for a lot of emotion in the undercurrents. And UST. Fuck me, I'll take even bad UST any fucking day. (Near-)Bulletproof narrative kink. I liked the way they fought while they were clothed, they fought while they fucked, and then we'd get this moments, these glimpses of vulnerability and realness. Bela lies deliberately and Jo puffs herself up in response to that; getting to the truth was the prize in the middle, the end, whenever it happened.
Also, here, have some SPN f/f recs. 21 total, across a huge variety of pairings.
