There is surprisingly very little reaction here.

Yep. LiveJournal as a whole seems to be comatose; but this at least used to be a fairly lively community, so I thought I'd bring it up...

In Harper's case, two parties were preparing to throw out the government, so the threat was a bit more immediate.

So how does that make this prorogation okay?

I didn't say it was okay, I was just pointing out one reason why it might not have led to the same level of furor -- the attempt to circumvent the effects of the democratic process was even more blatant and egregious in that instance.

No, I understand that you were explaining - I didn't think you were endorsing it. But why does anyone see this as less blatant, when it's so obviously being done to the Liberals' advantage, and when it's for six whole months or more? I don't get it.

Democracy is only dead when the person doing something is Harper or the Federal Conservatives. If the Liberals do the same thing, ah, its okay. They're totally okay.

This had crossed my mind as well, though being out here in BC I'm not all that familiar with Ontario politics.

The Harper prorogation wes wrong.

I'd be inclined to guess that the McGuinty prorogation wsa too, but I don't know enough about Ontario politics to answer. Not being an Ontarian, though, it isn't really my opinion that matters.
