Snape & Marauders: birthdays or date starting Hogwarts

I'm working on a fic that has some Marauder era stuff and I'm trying to figure out what year Snape, Lily, and the Marauders all started at Hogwarts. Do we have a definite birthday for any of the 5 so we can be sure of when they started at Hogwarts? I looked at the HP Lexicon website but different pages there are giving me different answers.

1971 is the most conventional date, I believe.

Known birthdays:

James's birthday: March 27
Remus' birthday: March 10
Severus' birthday: January 9
Lily's birthday: January 30

The tombstone for James and Lily in DH gives their birth dates as 27th March 1960 and 30th January 1960 respectively. Since pupils start Hogwarts in the September in which they are 11 years old, they would have started school in 1971, and since the other Marauders and Snape were in the same year, they must have started in 1971 too.

Agreed with the above. They started in 1971 and left in 1978, making them exactly 20 years older than Harry and co. There's a helpful list of Marauders-era characters and the dates they attended Hogwarts here.
