[open spam for hallways]

[Immediately after being driven away from that book-burning filth by his spectacularly misguided Warden, Hannibal found himself walking rapidly through the hallways. He had the manner of a man in a hurry, a man with a purpose. Inside, however, he was boiling over with rage ( Read more... )

[There were many secrets within the books in the Barge's library, secrets he did not want to lose to one madman's desire to burn them. A pile of books in hand, from books on magic to books on biology, some human, some alien, Raistlin hurried down the hall, planning to stash them in his room where none would dare take a book to burn.]

Hannibal saw him hurrying, in a way that was likely bad for the man's delicate lungs, and slowed slightly. From his burden and rushed Hannibal could suss out something of the magus's aims.

"Raistlin. Good evening." He rubbed his arm where Nygma's cane had yanked him back, and smiled tightly. He smelled slightly of smoke.

The smell made Raistlin cough a few times, though not severely as it would have been had he been on deck.

"I take it you saw what was happening on deck?" He clutched his books so tight his knuckles whitened.

"Saw, attempted to respond, was warded off by an armed Warden who treated the entire thing as a small matter." He fell into step beside the wizard. "I assume that your world has problems with anti-intellectual bibliocide as well, then?"

[Martha hadn't commented on the books that were being burned. She'd expected that there were certain books that would have been involved with them and at the moment she was in the position to restore some of them to the library. Her steps were coupled with a look of grim determination, and the heavy stack of brightly colored books in her arms was gripped in a manner that was almost overly protective.

And with good reason. There were the Harry Potter books, and some Shakespeare and a school copy of 1984, complete with dogged pages and writing. They weren't the best, but the books were the best that could be found under the circumstances.]

[Hannibal slowed, and tilted his head.] Ah. It is the continued march of the bibliophiles, I see. [Small polite smile.] You are not alone in your efforts.

[It seemed about the most comforting thing he could manage at the moment that was also true.]

Good. He doesn't get to decide what we read. [For the first time since her former inmate had left, Martha was quite glad that Coyo had left. At the moment, she expected that she would be looking around attempting to prevent her inmate from murdering Beatty.

Martha watched him for a moment, and then she inclined her head.]

Are you alright, Doctor? Is there something I can do?

Nono, there's nothing to be done but make sure that neither Beatty nor any allies have access to these books again. He was allowed to continue burning them; his Warden defended him but did not intervene in his actions, and I seriously doubt that he will be punished for them. [Hannibal's maroon eyes glitter with faint reddish points of light.]

In the face of such complete injustice, what is there to be done?

[Of course Jane had seen what had happened. She had shed more than one tear at it, but that sort of thing...she couldn't fight. There was really no other destination besides "away" when she left her room, but she didn't get too far.]

Doctor?

[Naturally, Jane didn't realise his anger. Not behind that mask. She didn't know what had happened. But there was a part of her that needed this distraction- even if it was from someone she had encountered only briefly.]

[He turned, forcing himself to draw a deep, calming breath. Yes, he was angry, but just as with Nygma he wanted to save it for appropriate targets. The pretty intellectual challenger facing him now was not appropriate. Not. Another deep breath. He tugged his hatbrim.]

Good evening. [He slowed, tilting his head. Was it the lighting or were her eyes a bit red?]

Are you quite all right?

[She nodded quickly, wondering why he had even asked. It never occurred to her that people would actually check for those things. People who weren't Eddie, that is. And he wasn't here, so she didn't have to care.]

I apologise. You were probably going somewhere. I just... [Needed to calm down.] ...don't normally see you here.

It is quite all right. I was merely...walking off some outrage. As there is nothing else to be done.

I have largely been busy with my art and the breakfast shift.

[Chromie is standing serenely in front of the closed doors of the library. She is a dragon. This is her hoard. None shall pass, bitches.]

[Hannibal can't help but go down and check the library eventually. The whole thing has him wanting to count his books, but it isn't just his books at risk from the arsonist. His mask even crumbles a little bit as he drew near, letting out a genuinely worried look as he draws within view of the time-traveling dragon. He pauses, and inclines slightly.

"Ma'am. Is all well here?"

"It was well and will be well, so yes. It is well."

Excellent. Please let me know if you have difficulty replacing any specific volumes; my library is small but as with Martha I do not mind volunteering some volumes.
