Ha, reminds me of growing up in French immersion in BC. Kind of harsh to expect kids not to want to speak to each other in their own language for hours a day for 10+ years... so I feel like I spent my youth being chastised by well-meaning francophone adults!
Coincidentally, one time I was watching a Radio Canada show about a francophone social group in Vancouver... I remember they were picnicking. It was more native speakers but they seemed very friendly. You should see if you can find it! Better for your level of fluency.
