Nothing so cute, and, at the same time, nothing so dangerous, as a toddler who just learned to walk.

If it's your own kid, you adjust your house to it, but if it's not, and your house is kid-proof, it can be very dangerous.

I think you did a good thing keeping the cat away. Cats and children can be very nice together, but the child needs to learn to be careful and gentle, and for a one-year old, that is very difficult.

Must have been a good party! I hope that if Leann and I ever get a little one, you wouldn't put away the stuffies. I'd be eager to show the kid what 'no' really means. Then again I am a control freak :)

The thing is I think a 1 year old kid still has no concept of what "no" means; you can keep pulling the baby away or taking away whatever they grabbed, and all you get is a tantrum cause they don't understand why they cannot have it.
That understanding comes a bit later; At this point they're busier trying to keep their balance while walking and stuffing whatever they find into their mouths.

Maybe you can startle the kid by actually yelling NO, or making a very scary sound (with a vuvuzela or an air horn or so LOL), but parents don't do that, they go "neee, nieeet doooeeen, is nieeet vooor jeeee" and of course the kid just keeps trying to reach for stuff and explore.

At some point they will start understanding that actions have consequences, but I think at this age it's too soon...

(And if you bring a kid to our place, we will still put the hot water out of the way, and keep Poes aside, just in case! ;) )
