Winter Solstice / Heavy Christmas

Dec 21, 2006 17:32

Today is the winter solstice, i.e. the shortest day of the year. In Helsinki, the sun was up for 5 hours, 49 minutes. It rose today at 9.24 and set at 15.13. I left work today at 3 to watch the sunset. Right outside our office is a nice place to watch. I took some photos with my cell phone camera.

Thinly related to Heavy Christmas - have you ever heard anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra? I'm just barely getting into them, but I guess it's a couple of guys from Savatage who put together a touring show featuring a little Christmas-themed rock opera each year. There are some classic chrismas tunes in the show, plus a bunch of original ones. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I have heard of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but I've not listened to them. Thanks for recommending them, I love Christmas songs, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra sounds definitely like something I'd enjoy. I'll have to check them out. :) "When the Crowds Are Gone" by Savatage is one of my all time favorite ballads.
