About the Twilight Fandom

Jul 19, 2008 19:28

I've been hearing this a lot lately and it's really starting to bother me, so I thought I would express my thoughts about it here.

Lately I've been hearing from some people in the Twilight fandom, about how much they are starting to dislike the growth of the Twilight saga's popularity, so much that some are starting to dislike the book.
I find those ( Read more... )

I'm glad that Twilight is getting so much attention, cause like you said it's an opportunity for new fans to find out about the books. I'm a recent fan to the series as I only got into the books around two months ago and if someone on another forum hadn't mentioned it I don't think I'd have read them.

I'm 22 and I know it's aimed at young adults, so I guess in that respect I'm in that category am I...never mind, but as I was saying there are older people who read the books. Look at all the moms who are fans, which I think is nice. To me I think these books are aimed at people my age and stuff, though there are younger people who have read them. Ah, that totally doesn't make sense anymore.

I don't really think of the Twilight books as for a specific age group. I think anyone of any age can read and enjoy them. I was 18 when I read the books and they really gave me a new aspect about life and love. Though, I agree that some younger fans may not get the full aspect of the books yet.

I agree that they aren't really for a specific age group, but it just seems like they would be aimed at a certain age group if you know what I mean. Some people might assume they are and that might be part of the reason why they haven't read them. I don't know, just guessing there.

I'm glad Twilight did so well. I remember reading Twilight for the first time last December, and almost no one knew about it where I live. Now, it seems like everyone at least knows about the book, and I don't have a problem with that. I'm glad people are able to recogznie the books.

I'm a younger fan, I'm only 17. I don't really consider myself too young to be reading the series because it is after all a young adult novel. I don't pour myself over Edward Cullen. He doesn't exist. But, all the same, I will always love Edward and Bella's relationship :)

Eh. Sturgeon's Law. 90 percent of everything is crap. With a bigger fandom you get more bad stuff, but you also get more good stuff, which is a decent trade-off.

There are people that will inevitably get bored of something the minute it becomes popular. Simply because it's no longer cool and edgy for them to like it.

*shrug* I've never been one to make decisions based on a popular opinion. I like what I like and that's really all there is to it. I can say that I, for one, am going nowhere. And I tend to think of the popularity as a good thing because it's what's going to bring us loads of cool Twilight merchandise. >D

I know what you mean, i agree with what you said about liking things because you just like them. But i do get where those fans are coming from; the ones that stop liking things when they become popular.. I know a lot of people who don't like things because they are no longer "unique" per say.. but yeah, there is one thing that bothers me, though.. the "fans" who only like it because most people do, but i guess it doesn't really matter, because when something new comes along, they will forget about the "old news".

I'm actually excited about the growth of popularity.

First of all, the books. Twilight is my favorite subject to talk about. A year ago, none of my friends had read the book, so when I would reference the Twilight series, no one would understand what I was laughing/talking about. Now, nearly everyone I know has read the books, so my social life is a lot more interesting.
The movie- now my friends and I swoon about Jacksper Kellmett and RPattz!

SMeye deserves the fame adn popularity, and the actors are too awesome to not as well-known.
