Egads! Is this fluff? From you?! Does Zito actually get a happy (for now) ending from you?! Reading this made my heart feel ten times lighter! Zito and Lincecum are oddly sweet here (I say 'oddly' because I can't really picture Zito being sweet) and I like Chavez' and Harden's cameos. Also I snickered out loud at the line about Zito getting bitch slapped. I just love the idea of little Tim Hudson hauling off and slapping Zito across the face. I also love your Tim too.
But what I really, really love is what Zito's thing with Lincecum represents here. It's like he's finally gotten it right.
For being a bit rusty, as you say, you still seem to be at the top of your game. But you can easily get back into the swing of things by writing more and more and more. :B Holy abuse of baseball metaphors, Batman!

I just had to say I'm amused that I consider "angst-tinged stories with happy endings" as park_hye_in said fluffy if they're coming from you. Rather than ( ... )

it wrote in about three days, and i did start it before richie's return to oakland (actually i was looking up chavvy's schedule to see where he'd be, and i was like, oh they're at home, oh they're playing the ranger, oh who's pitching--WAIT A MINUTE). up until then i don't think i intended to have harden in it at all. but he is a crafty boy who finds his way into all fic.
if lj is getting the dates right, i was actually at that game of which you speak (zito's last start with the total lack of any stuff whatsoever, and only three runs allowed on guts and guile), so i missed young tim being clinging in the dugout. i can picture it crystal clear, though. that kid, i swear.
anyway, you know i will wander and stray, but never very far, and never for too long, not so long as barry zito is still pitching and being cuter than hell. this i promise you.

Harden returning to Oakland made Myr say she wishes she hadn't punked out on moving out to the Bay area with me (instead of me moving out here with her). Part of me was like let's go then but, the truth is, I don't think even Oakland could be the Oakland I get homesick for.
up until then i don't think i intended to have harden in it at all. but he is a crafty boy who finds his way into all ficI think with your talent, you could work Rich Harden into a Holmes or Supernatural fic and it would be believable. You know I am totally pulling for this now ( ... )

Zito had gone half a decade pathetically grateful for every K he'd managed to bluff and feint and eke out of the ball, and he thought that Lincecum didn't really know what he was talking about.
and
"The curveball came back," Zito said, and then felt stupid, childish and superstitious.
MY HEART, ohmygod. i really have no words for how much i adore your portrayal of the struggling athlete, almost like a tragic hero. and the fact that this has a happy ending, <33333. i like angst, i like happiness, but i fucking love angst-tinged stories with happy endings. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS ( ... )

THIS. Is unexpectedly awesome and I was already in a good mood so it only could make me smile more :D It's just so, I don't know, happy!
"Hi," Tim Lincecum whispered. "I stole your second key."
Okay, this whole exchange kinda made me fall in love a little bit. It's adorable and, what, innocent? (but not so much)
Lincecum gazed up at him with a mindless smile, that faint disbelief that even two years later still invaded his eyes every time Zito touched him.
This too :D
And some various things - No one smiling at Z anymore (aww)! Briefly considering the existence of UFOs! Timmy sleeping on the plane with an eye mask on and singing Lady Gaga in the shower! Richie and the strawberry milkshakes! Better than any strikeout ever!I love, I love ( ... )

also, that bit about thinking about ufos while trying to get off is lifted from a crash test dummies song called 'swimming in your ocean.' timmy's eyemask and gaga singing i am convinced are canon.
