Notes/Warnings: This drabble was planned differently before I read
devon99's wonderfully written drabble for this prompt. I decided to change the focus of the drabble at that point. I'm not entirely satisfied with how this came out; under threat of my beta
julietm, I decided to post it anyway. haha. Feedback is most certainly welcome and greatly appreciated.
“Checkmate.”
“Shit!” David exclaimed tossing his hands up, collapsing against his chair.
Colby chuckled... watching David lean forward, eyes narrowing as he scrutinized the board to determine where he went wrong. “Seriously, Sinclair... how can you be this bad?”
David’s eyes shot up, his consternation being replaced instantly with a smile. “What’s that old saying? Bad at chess, best at women. Sounds right to me, Mr. Can’t Get One of 2 million Women in LA to Go Out with You.”
“For your information,” Colby smirked, checking his watch. “I have a date tonight.”
“Really?” David asked, raising an eyebrow in skepticism. “How much did she cost you?”
“Man, shut up and let’s play. I have time to kick your ass again before I need to go.”
“Yeah... you’ll want to hurry before your date starts losing air.”
“You really are a bastard, you know that?”
As David laughed, Colby smiled. He’d missed this. This is how it was before that damned Janus List. This is what he worked so hard to save. He’d seen war and his share of firefights; but, combating 2 years of lies to win back his best friend had been the toughest battle he’d ever fought.
