13 Days of Halloween: Day Six ~Luis Royo~

Oct 24, 2009 03:00

I don't know much about art, I just know what I like, and what I like tends to be darker, more gothic looking stuff. Luis Royo and his fantastical, beautiful and kick ass women turn me on. I find them sensual and so pleasing to the eye that I just want to stare at his work for hours on end.

I am such a fan of Luis Royo, he has so much out there, these are just some of my favorites. I love the sort of darker, gothic, gorgeous women who are sexy and BADASS, you know?

How have I missed this? One of my fave artists ever is Olivia, and his work makes me think of hers, only with a very erotic darkness added to it. This is beautiful, thanks for sharing!

She does the pin-up style art right? Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.

I love the dark erotica to Royo's work, it reminds me of Boris Vallego, but a little more, I don't know, softer? I am not sure that is the right way to describe it. I just know that Vallejo's work strikes me as very masculine, even when it's gorgeous women he's got on the page, but Royo's work always strikes me as feminine, which I love. The empowered female features heavily in my favorite of his (see the one above with the girl in the throne with a servant with his head cut off between her legs, it's an odd empowerment but it's there, nonetheless)

Love it! Glad you liked it too babe :)

His work is gorgeous.

I also have a soft spot for Frank Frazetta, the "grandfather" of this particular school of art. As a little kid I found some of Frazetta's work in the public library and thought it was so cool that his women actually had "real" hips and thighs.

It's Frazetta's work that Bakshi turned in to Fire and Ice in the early 80s.

The piece of Frank Franzetta's I remember the most is the dark centaur with the ivory woman riding him. I love that piece, and it's definitely where Royo took some of his inspiration. I just think it's so beautiful to look at, and many times I've found myself at the book store, perusing his stuff for hours on end :)

YES! That's the one! There is so much I love about it, and that style/genre in general. The gorgeous, curvy woman with the beast, the colors, the way it sort of takes myth and sexes it up.

Thanks for finding that for me! *saves*
