Christmas ornaments
It's that time of year again... when my thoughts turn towards buying new Christmas ornaments. I have recently added two to my collection. I discovered that the Texas Capitol gift shop has been putting out an annual ornament since 1996. Unfortunately they are retired after 10 years so I can't get the first 2. Hopefully I'll be able to get around to collecting the series. At the very least I'd like to get the ones I like. I did pick up this one from 1998 plus I also got a nice silver one at The Alamo.
When I was up visiting my mother-in-law with Mel we went to the mall. I saw the personalize-able ornaments are now on display. I was tempted to get this year's ornament (I get one each year for the hubby and myself with our names and the year) but I wasn't 100% sure if I should wait or not. Chris should be home just before Christmas for R&R but will there be time to get our ornament together?
Our first year we got an ornament that actually said it was our first Christmas together. We didn't even have a tree to hang it on! The next year we got a generic but cute snowman design.
In 2005 I got one that I put a picture of us taken at the airport at the end of his R&R so it really applied to 2005. We spent most of that year apart because of the deployment. Last year since it was the year we got our dogs I got a paw print and included their names.
This year I saw a cute sled design that was nice. The first one is the one I saw in the mall. I was able to find it online along with another similar themed one.
I would change the information so that it had the year and our first names. Not sure about the whole "The Hamiltons" or that sort of thing.
The alternative would be to keep searching for something that indicates that this is a deployment year. These two can be personalized so I would add the year and our names. If there is something significant about the year I like to try to represent that on our ornament. I want to make them as meaningful and indicative of that time in our life as possible.
Hmm. So much to think about. I also need to know if Chris wants me to wait for him to shop for it, should I shop for it myself, or should we shop online together? I'll just add that to the list of things I keep forgetting to talk with him about when he calls!
