Character: Houshakuji Renge
Series: Ouran Koukou Host Club
Age: 15

Canon: Once upon a time, a princess lived with her father in
France. She spent all her time playing bishounen harem games and had a
huge frightening obsession with crush on a bespectacled
digital youngling by the name of Miyabi-kun.

This all came apart at the seams when her father, unfortunately for
him, showed her a photograph of - among others - the son of a business
associate. This son happened to be Ohtori Kyouya, but to Renge, it was
her fiancee of forever, Miyabi-kun. Only not digital. Immediately
grabbing her bags, she took a jet to Japan. And in the Ouran tradition
of taking everything literally, 'immediately' meant 'there's a jet in
the house, and it's ready to go'.

After a variety of wacky hijinks - Renge declaring herself
manager/mascot girl of the Host Club and producing artificial angst
for the boys - she eventually decides to crush on Haruhi instead.
Which is okay. Unless you're Tamaki.

In short: Renge is very "enthusiastic" over bishounen (especially
those mighty four-eyed folk), is adoringly impulsive and has a
frightening amount of knowledge about obscure game slang. Oh, and she
can secure you a topnotch film crew in about fifteen minutes.

I, Houshakuji Renge, have arrived!

Let the shooting for the Extra Special Dokidoki Summer Adventure Love
Host Club Dai Rabu Rabu Chu commercial commence!

Set up the monitors, the cameras, adjust the light and give me my
script! Haruhi-sama, other people, assume your poses!

...

...where are you? Crew? Other people! Come out and assume your poses!
We are on a very tight schedule, the commercial is supposed to air
tomorrow! Make-up, assume your positions! ...Light? Audio? Where are
you? Come on out, this is not funny!

I cannot believe they're trying to ditch this work! It's such an
important project for the club, and I, as the manager, have to take
full responsibility for it! If they refuse to help in this great and
magnificent project, I may need to motivate them. I can't believe
they're trying to ruin the project I worked so hard for! How could
they just leave? Miyabi-kun would never do this to me. He would come
and stroke my head and help me with my projects and never leave me
alone in the middle of a forest full of glowing red eyes!

It's unbelievable that a girl like me should be reduced to screaming.

Well then.

HARUHI-sama, protect me from these woods! These big, bad trees!
They're dangerous for a delicate girl like me!

This TREE looks so dangerous and huge... and I think its roots just
TWITCHED! I might get attacked by it! Oh whatever am I to do, a
delicate maiden all alone, in an unknown territory where ANYTHING
might happen! I might be ATTACKED and WOUNDED!

...

IYAAaaaAAa! Get away from me! Haruhi-sama, HELP ME!

...I may truly be alone here. I cannot believe they left me all alone,
all on my own here. I suppose I must now find a way back to
civilization...

I, Houshakuji Renge, really want to leave now.

Character: Hoshakuji Renge
Series: Ouran High School Host Club
Age: 16

Canon: Like everyone else in Ouran High School (Haruhi not
included), Renge comes from a rich family. However, unlike the other girls,
Renge is everyone's self-insert a true otaku fangirl. Otaku pointers
include her love for love simulation games, cosplay, boys' love, as well as
the Shinsengumi. She likes to dramatize/romanticize everything according to
her wide knowledge of aforementioned games (and very possibly manga). Her
otaku personality shines when she begins to speak with great enthusiasm of
the very things she fangirls, obvious in her run-on sentences.

When she first appears, she believes that Kyouya is her prince with the sole
reason that he looks exactly like her favourite character Ichijo Miyabi in
the love simulation Uki Doki Memorial. With her controlling behaviour, she
decided on her own to be the temporary manager of the Host Club, hardly
listening to what the others thought about it. She then proceeds to stage an
Ouran!Uki Doki almost immediately after. Upon realising that Kyouya is
different from the character she loves, Renge sets her sights on Haruhi
instead, not realizing that the latter is a girl. In later chapters, Renge
has the tendency of popping up at just the right moments to point out an
otaku opinion on the host club's situation.

What an amazing cosplay convention!!

I have heard a great number of stories involving fat old American men
dressed in tight cosplay outfits with their hairy hairy legs- oh it shudders
me to even think of my Ichijo Miyabi as a large hairy man -so I had my
qualms about coming, but this is far better than any cosplay I have ever
seen in Tokyo! I don't recognise any of the characters, but it is safe to
assume that they all come from a horror roleplay of some sort. The effects,
the blood, the missing limbs - all so very realistic and well done!

However, this is precisely why I don't favour horror games - the
supporting characters are just too similar. It's far too weak for
every single character to look exactly the same. Oh of course, each of them
are missing different body parts and their moans are slightly varied, but
personality-wise, always with the "braaaaains" and the "braaaaaaains" and
"braaaaaaaaains". I do like how they bite each other so lovingly I suppose.

Well, seeing as how there are so many of these cosplayers, it might just be
the perfect opportunity:

this Hoshakuji Renge will give out character sets for the first horror
boys' love simulation ever to be created!

You! You shall be the tragic twin with a large inferiority complex!

You! You shall be the better twin who loves your brother, but cannot
approach him due to his hatred for you!

You! You shall be the-- well, I can't quite tell whether you're male
or not with that hole over there, but you shall be the silent older rival
who attempts to bed the bitter twin at every turn!

Ahhh~ this is so exciting! The idea of gay incestuous love
transcending into the afterlife... it gives me the strength to eat an entire
whale! ♥

Character: Renge Houshakuji
Series: Ouran Koukou Host Club Anime and Ouran Koukou Host Club Manga
Age: 17

Canon: Renge is, simply put, a game otaku. Her world revolves around
them, more specifically the dating sims games. She’s so obsessed that she
spontaneously decided to affiance herself to one Ohtori Kyouya, who strongly
resembled her favorite character in the game “Ukidoki Memorial”. Labeling
him as her “prince”, she immediately listed out aspects of the person she
saw him as, all of which were totally untrue and made the rest of the host
club go on a “WHO’S THAT?!” spazz fest. Renge finally stops fangirling over
her version of Kyouya after he practically shoots down her image of him and
emos for a day or so. She then proceeds to fall in love with Haruhi Fujioka.
It’s safe to say that she judges people shallowly by their looks and first
impressions.

So Renge’s mainly a bossy fangirl who will not listen to what another
person says if it contradicts what she believes. Renge will not understand
what you’re trying to say because in her world, her word is absolute and
everyone else are just puppets in her play. She's also incredibly
overbearing and assumes everyone will do what she says--a good example would
be her declaration of herself as the Ouran Host Club's manager.

Wrong, wrong, wrong! Everything about this camp is wrong! It’s supposed to
instill absolute fear in the ladies, who will immediately swoon in
the arms of their knights in shining armor or their handsome princes on
white horses!

You creatures! That color of purple is vile! Go roll in a mud pit to get a
decent shade of brown that would compliment the natural scenery! The goats
will have to go, as they ate my luggage! Zombies! You’re not supposed to
stroll around the camp as if you have all day to collect brains! Go after
the campers like you mean it! You are to be the main attraction, second only
to the director.

The director will be the perfect antagonist. Shunned by his true love, he
carries out his vengeance on others who had special characteristics like
hers. The angst she harbored, the deep homicidal streak she kept in secret,
the innocence she exuded that was not innocent in the least, these were only
some of the qualities he searched for when seeking out his next victims.
I’m sure the director won’t mind the gender switch, since I hear that she’s
never at camp. I’ll have a male camper take her place. Hopefully I’ll be
able to find one with a sinister enough background~!

I shall have to start immediately in order to make this camp perfect! As the
newly appointed manager, I will make sure that the Ouran Host Club - CFUD
Division is the absolute ideal scenario for LOVE! ♥

Character: Houshakuji Renge
Series: Ouran Host Club
Age: 16

Canon: Renge is an otaku. Oh, not just any otaku. Renge is a high-class French otaku with a terrifying capacity for obsession and a dangerous amount of power, thanks to her dynamite, controlling personality and endless wealth. During teatime with her father, he made the mistake of showing Renge a photograph of his business partner's son, Kyouya, who happens to be the perfect likeness of her long-time dating sim obsession Miyabi-kun. So what did she do? She stood from the table, declared she would marry him, hopped on her private jet that just happened to be on hand, and announced herself Kyouya's fiancee days later at Ouran Academy. Nevermind that Kyouya had never seen her before - details in the way of destiny! She answered her calling and became the Ouran Host Club's manager shortly thereafter; who better to shape up a harem of typecast boys than an avid otaku? The prince type needed a tragic past, the shouta type lacked an essential dark side! And after rewriting their roles, she hired a top-notch Hollywood crew to film a dramatic adaptation of their lives. Because she could.

Eventually she faced the true edge of Kyouya's personality and let go of the fiancee business (and started crushing on Haruhi, Our Heroine, on the side), but instead of going home she chose to stay in Japan, which suited her shameless fangirl nature better. She learned a valuable lesson on stereotyping in the process or something, but there's no need for a developed sense of reality when you're the manager of a super-rich Host Club! She continues her job with enthusiasm. She breaks in new recruits! She cosplays! She proudly utilizes her vast knowledge of game and anime success formulas! And she'll give you her expert opinion after an excellent, well-timed entrance on a motorized lift.

Security in the shape of an invisible dome proves no match for Houshakuji Renge! Kyouya-sama, you should have told me the Host Club was going to be attending a cosplay resort! Am I not the manager? Is this not my field of expertise? It was a drastic oversight to keep me from this place for so long - why, half the cast and crew looks positively dead! You, stop shuffling your feet, and you need to enunciate your lines! I can't tell if you're saying "braiiiins" or "draiiiins," and that means the camera can't tell! You are fearsome, terrible zombies, not plumbers! Are we afraid of gangrene or grout?

Poor acting on the extras' parts aside, I really must compliment the costume design. The accuracy of the Amestris and ZAFT uniforms, the detail of the armor and weapons for the Chinese soldiers... the amazing concert outfit on the diva Meer Campbell! It stirs my heart to see such dedication, such achievement of what was once thought impossible! If I had only known of the overwhelming feeling this would give me, like like stepping into an entirely different world, I might have costumed myself as the classic dazzled heroine Miaka.

But - but! As exciting as the casting is, you cannot simply rely on that alone. If you're not going to streamline the genre, you should at least do everything right! Nobody can act afraid of zombies that lack the essential horror game background - where is the T-virus, the fear of infection? And the gorillas simply need more dimension! They should have families, baby lavender gorillas to come home to in the woods after a long day of rejection and ridicule at their questionable dayjob - a profession they simply cannot tell their wives about!

And that tentacle monster is simply not up to par. The forbidden dangers that appeal to young women and men - I'm simply not feeling it. Though at least Madame Director sprung for a giant octopus instead of an automated model (I would have gladly donated Frans in the aquarium back home!)... Perhaps if we load it up with caffeine supplements to achieve a vibration effect? Crude, but effective!

Overall, there must be more focus, more drive. This is no longer about simply stirring the hearts of girls! If you are going to have a production that spans so many possible tastes, so many genres, everyone must put forward more energy with no slacking! A thousand interactive fans are watching!
