The former. The ominous cryptic planning has been a situation for at least a few days now.

Alternate versions of the same person, certainly, and I have already spoken to people of those. But the random uncanny resemblances, to the point of being nearly physically identical, are somehow stranger.

I am not allowed to interfere in the affairs of this place. What happens, happens. But it is not... easy to witness and not act.

What would be the consequences of your breaking it?

Meddling in the future causes people to be dependent on it. I will not allow that curse to fall on humanity. No matter how ... painful it may be.

As much as I abhor the idea of a life without rules, the idea of a life without breaking them possibly frightens me even more.

Not that I'm trying to relate our situations in the least. We have very different aims. But the contrast interests me.
